    Important call-to-action here:

    View profile for Jared Emerling

    Co-Founder at Float House

Until last week, I was thrilled to write this post. I couldn't wait to do it. Honestly, I've been trying to get to it for weeks - but you know how that goes. And now the work feels like it has such a different context. 🤙 We've recently launched our products with Kim Gamez and her amazing team at Sober(ish). It's an incredible way for us to increase our reach, and they're a great group! 🤙 We're now available for purchase through Airgoods. Our B2B business is just getting started, but we're stoked to be on that platform and available for customers who want to try our brands. 🤙 Our own FLOAT HOUSE website (www.floathouse.co) has a store too - and we've started running periodic discounts on both! Our email sign-up will keep you in the know: https://lnkd.in/eMhjUNk4 🤙 In ~2 weeks, we're launching THC LITE 10 and THC DIPA: 10mg versions of our core THC LITE and THC IPA in 16oz cans*! Gordon Whelpley, Joe Duplinsky, Jon Lafrenaye and I continue to break new grounds with our CAN-NA-BREWS at the (ahem) highest quality, and I'm truly proud of that. 🤙 AND just in time for the holidays, we'll be releasing the world's first and only (I think?) THC-infused nitro brew inspired by the Dry Irish Stout style of beer. THC NITRO will be in 3mg 12oz and 10mg 16oz formats online and in CT, RI, and NJ!* *Not all states support the 10mg format, and that leads me to the larger point here. The hemp industry deserves clear and sensible regulation so that businesses like ours can prosper. And yet - despite clear consumer demand - the U.S. Hemp Roundtable & Hemp Beverage Alliance tells us of a current provision in Congress set to outright ban intoxicating hemp. It's an incoherent and unjust undermining of the 2018 Farm Bill, and if passed, will destroy an est 320,000 American jobs. Ya know, at a time when people are finding it hard enough getting work and making ends meet. All too often, these “Jobs” figures can be this abstract or politicized number. So to put a point on it: that's 320,000 PEOPLE who work in hemp, from farming to formulation, who will be negatively impacted by this bill. And in our corner of the world, if it passes it would effectively put an end to FLOAT HOUSE as we know it today. If you’re reading this, please visit https://lnkd.in/ehHVwzpw, following the "Stop Hemp Killing Language in Congress" link, and take the 2-minutes to send your local legislators a message that you want to #stoptheban. They’ve made it incredibly simple to do. You just need to follow the prompts and within moments you’ve helped me, the FLOAT HOUSE team, and thousands of others protect their livelihood. My deep thanks and gratitude to everyone who signs these petitions. Together, we can get this one right, my dudes! #HempIndustry #SaveHempJobs

KK&P worked with Brooklyn Grange in 2024 to recruit a new CEO to take the helm from Founding CEO Ben Flanner. After an extensive national search, Sam Murray—coming with a deep background leading CPG and other food enterprises—was selected for the position. KK&P’s founder Karen Karp had the opportunity to speak with Sam last month about his experience over the past year leading this groundbreaking icon of urban agriculture. https://lnkd.in/g6hdwNZJ #recruiting #foodsystems #urbanfarming #urbanagriculture

Hope & Main has built an effective entrepreneurship ecosystem for start-up food brands in Rhode Island. KK&P spoke recently with founder Lisa Raiola to learn how this ecosystem has evolved and improved since we worked with them in 2020 on a five-year strategic plan. Today, Hope & Main has 120 active members and is responsible for 25% of CPG food brand launches in their home state. They’re also expanding on their successes by building additional kitchen capacity in Providence and helping to shape an economic landscape that empowers entrepreneurs and communities for the long-term.   https://lnkd.in/eZniA6-4

PEOPLE DON'T EAT RESEARCH PAPERS: The EAT-Lancet Report Got the Science Right and the Humans Completely Wrong The new EAT-Lancet Commission report just dropped—76 pages of rigorous science on how to feed 9.6 billion people without destroying the planet. The prescription is clear: slash beef, eat mostly plants, cap emissions. Here's the problem: nobody's ordering the Planetary Health Diet for dinner tonight. The commission got the science right and the humans completely wrong. We keep trying to convince people with carbon footprints and sustainability metrics when the actual battle is against Frito-Lay scientists who've spent decades perfecting the exact crunch-to-salt ratio that triggers compulsive snacking. You can't tax people into wanting vegetables. Denmark tried—their fat tax worked, cutting saturated fat consumption by 10-15%, then got killed after fifteen months because it became politically toxic. The real work isn't policy. It's culinary. It's cultural. We need the same maniacal obsessive rigor applied to lentils that goes into engineering Cheetos. Until brown rice and legumes can compete with products scientifically designed to be irresistible, your climate impact stays at zero. I just published practical examples of what this looks like—from $2.50 chickpea patties that rival fast food to fine dining where vegetables become the ultimate luxury. Not virtue signaling. Actual craveability. (Credit to Øistein Thorsen for the conversation that sparked this—his observation that "nobody makes dinner plans based on research papers" crystallized the whole argument.) The scientists built the blueprint. Now someone needs to make it delicious. Full piece: https://lnkd.in/gn8-yJKN
