In a recent Law360 article, Partner Meghan Greenfield shared her insight on federal agencies with environmental responsibilities using AI tools. The Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Interior and the Department of Energy have said they may use AI tools in areas of their work, most notably in speeding up permitting and rulemaking processes. “AI is promising, but it requires a lot of oversight.” “There are real questions about agencies’ ability to provide that, given how many staff have left. In a recent article for Solicitors Journal, Partner Lucy Blake discussed growing tensions between US and European regulatory requirements after 16 US State Attorneys General sent letters to major companies including Microsoft, Google and Meta, warning them against complying with the EU's new sustainability reporting and due diligence regulations. “Global companies are trapped between a rock and a hard place where their obligations in the EU and UK are in conflict with expectations and risks in the US,” said Lucy. “Meeting US obligations on DEI and ESG in particular may mean they fall foul of obligations in the EU and UK to promote diversity and mitigate environmental, social and governance-related impacts."
