My advice to companies, particularly now as we are beginning to see some layoffs, is this: Don’t just think about your business conditions in the moment—think about your future. Put time and effort into how you treat the people you have to let go. Because how those employees are treated sends an important message to the ones who remain. Prioritize #outplacement. Even if it’s not a full program, meet with those individuals who are transitioning out, and make sure they have the resources they need to look forward.
