About us

In 1969, Don and Doris Fisher opened the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco. They wanted to make it easier to find a great pair of jeans, and they did. Their denim and records store was a hit, and it grew to become one of the world’s most iconic brands. Today we’re represented in more than 1400 stores in over 40 countries, and online. We have headquarters in New York, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and, of course, San Francisco. Our unique aesthetic is optimistic cool, elevated American style. Our clothes are crafted with care, with focused attention to thoughtful design. We believe in staying true to our heritage while creating what’s next. Don and Doris Fisher always wanted to “do more than sell clothes.” They wanted to support the people who ran their company, to be active in their communities, and to have a positive impact on the world. Their vision helped transform retail, and we’re still following their lead. We stand for freedom and possibility for all; we champion diverse ideas that transcend generations, geographies and genders. So if you have ideas, if you’re talented, if you want to work with phenomenal people, and if you think we should leave the world a little better than we found it, we’d love to meet you.

This past weekend at Gap at The Grove, we greeted customers with a festive holiday surprise – a heartfelt live performance of “The Climb”, brought to life by the incredible choir featured in our holiday campaign. It was a celebration of connection and community, capturing the spirit of the season and reminding us that the holidays are truly about sharing something meaningful. This week, Gap celebrated the reopening of our redesigned Chestnut Street store in San Francisco’s Marina District – a location that’s been part of the city’s fabric since 1987.   We hosted an in-store event and ribbon cutting where more than 200 guests – Gap leaders, friends of the brand, and local partners – explored the redesigned store. With music by DJ Umami, custom product moments, and food and cocktails from our favorite local Marina vendors, the experience brought the spirit of the San Francisco to life.

Today, Gap launched its holiday campaign, "Give Your Gift," building on last year’s message of togetherness.    Directed by Bethany Vargas and photographed by Bjorn Iooss – the creative duo behind "Better in Denim" – the campaign stars emerging artist Sienna Spiro and a multigenerational choir as they reimagine "The Climb."   From cozy CashSoft knits to heritage fleece, Gap’s holiday collection embodies comfort that lasts – made to be worn, shared, and loved.    #Gap #GiveYourGift #CashSoft

We’re celebrating 30 years of hoodie history! First introduced in 1995, the Gap Arch Logo Hoodie has become one of the most recognizable icons in global fashion: a symbol of comfort, creativity, and connection. Since then, we’ve reimagined it through new silhouettes, materials, and collaborations with partners like Dapper Dan, PALACE, and Malbon – each one honoring the legacy while redefining what it means to wear the logo. Ben Tsujiura, Gap’s Head of Merchandising for Men’s and Collaborations, welcomed Esquire magazine into our New York archive to explore the evolution of the iconic Arch Logo Hoodie. This week, Gap announced its latest collaboration with New York designer Sandy Liang, a limited-edition collection that reimagines our classic styles through her whimsical, playful lens.    To bring the collaboration to life, our team set out to create something special. Alongside artist Annie Choi, they developed a dreamlike animated film that captures Sandy’s memories of growing up in New York and the themes that fuel her creative vision. Drawing inspiration from iconic cultural influences and the color palettes of vintage ’90s Gap ads, the video blends nostalgia with modern storytelling.  The collection will be available October 10 online and in select Gap stores. In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, Faby Torres, Chief Marketing Officer for Gap brand, joined "Better in Denim" director Bethany Vargas for a fireside chat at our New York office. Together, they reflected on how their heritage has shaped their lives and careers – and how storytelling helps build connection, belonging, and cultural pride. “Your story, your journey, and your perspective are everything,” said Bethany Vargas. “Use that as a tool. Show up for yourself, and once you lean into that, everything else will fall into place.” #LatinxHeritageMonth

Gap opened its first store in Japan on September 1, 1995. Thirty years later, we marked the milestone with "Denim and Records Reimagined" — a four-day celebration in Shibuya, Tokyo, honoring Gap’s enduring connection to culture through denim and music.   Hosted in a space where traditional Japanese architecture meets modern energy, the event showcased immersive installations and live DJ performances by Tokyo-based artists.   Guests explored denim-inspired works, including a collection curated by Sean Wotherspoon that paired GapVintage with current favorites to reflect our timeless legacy.   #GapJapan30 #DenimAndRecordsReimagined
