The first session of Join The Pack Jamaica is history, where South Florida volunteers packed more than 21,000 emergency meals for families still facing severe food shortages after Hurricane Melissa. Over the next two days, the goal is to pack 140,000 MannaPack meals. Today we welcomed Feed My Starving Children Executive Director/CEO J.J. Slag to Food For The Poor’s Coconut Creek headquarters ahead of Join The Pack Jamaica, our large-scale emergency meal-packing event. This afternoon and Saturday, volunteers at Community Christian Church in Tamarac will assemble 140,000 MannaPack meals to support families in Jamaica recovering from Hurricane Melissa. We are sincerely grateful to Jamaican artist Steve Higgins, who donated more than $25,000 to FFTP following a powerful benefit concert at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church, to families in Jamaica impacted by Hurricane Melissa.🇯🇲💙 The event also featured the South Florida Caribbean Chorale and Brick & Lace, the acclaimed sister duo from Jamaica.
