Why do projects fail – and what makes those few succeed? Fluor’s Leonardo Kaid posed this question during his keynote at the Capital Projects Symposium, discussing the drivers of successful project execution and sharing insights gleaned from his over 27 years of leadership in mining and metals. At Fluor, our people make the difference. Their passion and commitment to excellence in project delivery are what drive our continued success. #BuildingABetterWorld #CPS2025
The Capital Projects Symposium opened its Financing & Development session with a keynote from Leonardo Kaid, Vice President & General Manager, North America – Mining & Metals, Fluor Corporation Canada Ltd., "Project Success Decoded: Constants, Variables, and the Tale of Two Outcomes". Kaid challenged the audience with the finding that 65% of mega projects fail, asserting that the root cause is often strategic misalignment, a disconnect between the enterprise strategy and the project's actual goals. To counter this, he defined "Constants of Success," which include achieving clear, top-down scope alignment and implementing end-focused planning with adaptive execution strategies. Furthermore, achieving capital efficiency and predictability requires mutual trust and transparency, early engagement of all key delivery partners (including equipment partners for realistic budgeting), and fostering a collaborative culture led by decisive leaders. #CPS2025 #CIMevents #Financing #CIMcommunity #IndustryLeadership #Development
