Life Changing Outcomes for Exceptional Kids
About us
First Children Services grew out of the First Children School in Fanwood, NJ. Joseph J. Hess, Jr, its president and owner since 2009, recognized the opportunity to begin providing educational, therapeutic and behavioral health services to children in the most natural settings possible. This may be at home, in the local school district, early intervention programs, hospitals, private schools and residential treatment facilities. First Children operates an approved private school serving children in grades PreK-high school in Fanwood, NJ, which was established in 1978 by Children’s Specialized Hospital and acquired by First Children in 2009. In addition, the organization operates a child care program at its site in Fanwood serving children from infancy through pre-kindergarten, a unique program that serves both children with and without challenges.

Please join us in welcoming Matt Linder to the First Children Services team as Chief Operating Officer! Since his entry into the world of professional human services, getting people what they need to succeed ignited a passionate fire within Matt. From working directly with people on the Autism Spectrum to leading hundreds of people in several companies, he learned humility and developed systems for accountability, objectivity, and effective communication. As he honed his skills to motivate, inspire, support, and respect others, Matt continually took on the opportunities to lead more people and mint more leaders. Achieving the desired effect through others is a burden, but one shouldered by the leader. Understanding this tenet paved the path for him to flourish as an executive harnessing the principles of organizational behavior management and human performance theory to bring out the best in his employees. His experiences as a pivotal player in rapidly scaling an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) company served as significant contributors. Matt took this company from 30 employees to over 600, with the last 5 years as Executive Vice President & COO. Seeing the opportunity to broaden his impact, he started a company to work with organizations to bridge operational and cultural gaps through coaching and consultation, even acting as a fractal executive when needed. Matt lives to work with others to develop/ customize the strategies, tools, resources, and systems for maximizing effective leadership and scaling small business.
