EPB generates $5.3 billion in community benefit Since EPB launched the nation’s most automated grid and world’s fastest community-wide internet 15 years ago, we’ve measured the impact of our investment. Today, we released the latest benefit study, which found continued growth and benefit for our customers and our community. According to the peer-reviewed study completed with The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, EPB’s original investment has generated $5.3 billion in community benefit from 2011-2025—six times the original investment. Among the findings: - Helping to create more than 10,000 local jobs, becoming one of the largest funders of critical local services like schools and bridging the digital divide for K-12 students through HCS EdConnect powered by EPB. - Reducing power outages by 59% (annual average over the last 10 years). - Higher value in fiber optic services with the highest speed, lowest cost per megabit, and the only 100% fiber optic network with equal upload and download speeds in our service area. For the first time, the study projects how our highly advanced energy and fiber optic infrastructure will benefit our community into the future: - Future community benefits of $5 billion and the creation of an estimated 8,000 new jobs between 2026 and 2035. - Of that, EPB's quantum initiatives are expected to represent up to $1.1 billion of that benefit.
