  • Today in session, the Commissioners proclaimed November as Adoption Recognition and Recruitment Month, honoring the vital role adoptive parents play in providing safe and loving homes for children. They also commended the Delaware County Department of Job & Family Services for ongoing efforts to recruit, train and license qualified adoptive families. While between 2,800 and 3,300 children in Ohio are currently in out-of-home settings awaiting adoption, only 15 are in the temporary or permanent custody of Delaware County JFS, a reflection of the department’s strong local support network. The Commissioners also heard from representatives of the Delaware Public Health District and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who spoke about the upcoming World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This global observance honors the lives lost in traffic crashes and raises awareness about road safety. Locally, the SAFE Delaware County Coalition will mark the occasion with a ceremony on Friday at noon. During the event, a wreath will be displayed at the OSHP Delaware Post to honor each of the county’s traffic fatalities this year.

Ahmed recently concluded his tenure as Board Chair, having served in that role since 2021, a period which the Commissioners described as pivotal to the board’s strategic planning efforts. To celebrate his contributions, Executive Director Andy Volenik and now-Chair Bruce Luecke presented him with a cricket bat signed by the transit agency’s staff and a plaque recognizing his leadership, teamwork and vision.
