We are deeply saddened about the passing of local land protection specialist, artist, and the person who attempted to set a record for paddling down the Connecticut River for 40 miles in a giant pumpkin just two years ago—David Rothstein. Dave not only supported local ecosystems through his work at Mass Audubon, the EPA, and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife, but his big heart and generous spirit also strived to raise awareness for the arts, conservation, and other community endeavors through creativity. He will be greatly missed. https://lnkd.in/eRPPYEuK

We'd like to celebrate a long-time contributor to the advocacy and conservation of the Connecticut River watershed in the Upper Valley. Adair Mulligan has dedicated many years of service to this endeavor as the Director of Conservation at the Connecticut River Joint Commissions and more recently as the Executive Director of the Hanover Conservancy where she is now retiring from. Adair is a champion for wildlife, a brilliant storyteller, and a collaborator who could bring people together for the common cause of preserving nature. There are many incredible individuals whose lives and careers have contributed to the ecosystems all around us, and we are so grateful! The Valley News wrote a great article to say even more about Adair. https://lnkd.in/enaYeYSx

The Connecticut River Conservancy has been working with HOLYOKE ROWS INC on river access improvements along the Connecticut River in Holyoke, MA, for years now, and we are happy to share that the work is nearly complete! The Jones Ferry site is now a safer, more accessible, and more inclusive community hub for recreation and environmental engagement. The project includes a new multi-use dock system, new channel and no-wake markers, installation of new safety signage, the removal of derelict stairs that had long presented safety hazards, the removal of invasive species, riparian plantings, and the addition of a new viewing platform. Great work by Gabriel Chevalier (she/her), local partners, and volunteers. We hope this access site brings river enjoyment for many years to come 🛶 More information here: https://lnkd.in/ebvzwwXN

During the 2025 summer season CRC organized a new series of 8 beginner and intermediate paddling events in VT, MA, and CT 🛶 Most events aimed to help participants develop technical paddling skills in tandem with safety and risk awareness for on-water activities. All events were community-centered and free of charge as part of our commitment to making river recreation more accessible and inclusive for all watershed communities. Lessons were followed by a beautiful guided paddle along the Connecticut River, its coves, or tributaries. Approximately 167 participants joined these events, with 9 partner organizations and outfitters contributing to making the paddles a success! Many more details and stories are available here: https://lnkd.in/efhcPYNv Got ideas for where we should paddle next year? Tell us in the comments 👇
