The City’s Affordable Housing Permit Now program has permitted more than 4,500 homes in San Diego since it began! Introduced in 2023 in response to an Executive Order from Mayor Gloria, the program requires that qualified 100% affordable home construction projects be reviewed in 30 days or less, with averages closer to 10 days. This includes apartments, emergency shelters, transitional housing and permanent supportive housing. Last month, we saw one of the first projects permitted through the Affordable Housing Permit Now program welcoming new residents, and DSD is sustaining that momentum moving forward into 2026 and beyond. Excited to share that the California Energy Commission and the City of San Diego with industry partners are hosting the San Diego Energy Code Forum on November 21st. This forum is designed to bring together building officials, contractors, HVAC and lighting professionals, designers, energy consultants, and anyone who works with California’s energy code in the field. Our goal is simple: make compliance clearer, smoother, and collaborative. We’ll be discussing real-world project challenges, sharing updates on 2025 Energy Code, data collection, and highlighting resources to support inspectors and building teams. It’s also a chance for our regional community to talk with each other — not just at each other — and shape solutions together. If you or your team works on nonresidential mechanical or electrical scope in San Diego, I encourage you to join us and bring your insights. Your experience is what makes these conversations meaningful. 📅 Thursday, November 21, 8AM To 3PM 📍 City of San Diego / Development Services Department Mission Valley Office 💬 Free to attend — open to practitioners, public agencies, and trade professionals Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gTsiM5hf Event Page: https://lnkd.in/g4WqEgmZ I’m grateful to everyone helping make this happen — especially our local building department leaders who are committed to supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality buildings for our great state. How does federal funding assist the City? The City’s Fiscal Year 2025 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report covered all the ways the City used federal funding to improve the lives of our residents. ✨This week, we take a look back at the community and economic development projects completed in fiscal year 2025! 👨🏽💻These are projects that supported emerging entrepreneurs, provided one-on-one technical assistance and general business support to microenterprises, which are businesses with five or fewer employees. Whether they wanted to expand or get established, our partners were there to help them achieve their business goals. Today is America Recycles Day! ♻️ Let’s keep our planet clean by sorting our waste the right way: Green Bin: ✅ Kitchen food scraps and yard trimmings go in the green bin (in brown paper bags if you like). Reminder: Plastic and compostable plastic bags go in the trash bin. 🚫No hoses, dog toys or pet waste. Blue Bin: ✅Place clean and dry recyclables loosely in the bin. Got clothes? Try donating instead of tossing them! 🚫 No plastic bags. Gray/Black Bin: ✅Pet waste, plastic and compostable plastic bags and takeout containers. 🚫 No electronic waste or lithium-ion batteries. They can cause trash truck fires! Visit sandiego.gov/hazwaste to learn how to dispose of them safely. Thanks, San Diego, for your part in helping our environment! 🌎💚 Wondering what goes where? We have guides available: https://lnkd.in/gH7hg9QW #sandiego #americarecyclesday #recycleright

The City recently joined its partners in the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP) to celebrate their collective accomplishments. The MSCP was established to preserve San Diego’s unique habitats while promoting thoughtful and sustainable development. One major milestone highlighted was the City reaching 99% of our 52,727-acre conservation target. This is a testament to strong collaboration with regional partners and the generosity of community donors. The event also gave residents the opportunity to delve deeper into this important work and learn how local, state, and federal partners are collaborating to protect the most biodiverse region in the continental U.S. #BiodiverseSD #Conservation #Wildlife #SanDiego

We’re excited to share that our recently adopted Coastal Resilience Master Plan was recognized with the Outstanding Innovation in Resilient or Sustainable Planning and Design Award from AEP San Diego! 👏 The Coastal Resilience Master Plan offers a comprehensive long-term strategy to protect and preserve our shoreline, addressing the growing risks of coastal flooding and erosion. The plan includes concept-level designs of nature-based solutions, such as elevated sand dunes, restored coastal habitats and realigned parks and infrastructure. Thank you to Harris & Associates for their support and partnership throughout the development of the plan, and congratulations to all the other AEP award recipients. It’s amazing to see so much impactful work happening across our region. #ClimateResilientSD #SanDiego #SDAEP2025
