🦃🥧 THROWBACK THURSDAY: Team Turkey or Team Pumpkin Pie? Every year, folks enjoy traditional Thanksgiving fare. To celebrate the season, let’s take a look at how Littleton residents of the 1870s may have cooked their holiday meals. Pumpkin pie aficionados raised their own pumpkins but would use store-bought spices. Often imported and expensive, the spices used in pumpkin pie would be kept safe and dry in tins such as this one from the 1870s. Cinnamon, cloves, mace, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger – purchased at a general store, the spices would be packed up into small bags or paper folded into a packet, then stored in these tins at home. Did you know there are many different breeds of turkeys? In this image from 1985, Bronze Turkeys are wandering around the Littleton Museum on a winter day. Today, the Museum has the breed called Narragansett Turkeys on the 1860s Farm. These birds are a historic breed that is unique to North America. What’s your favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner?

A brighter future for Downtown Littleton is taking shape! In November 2024, city council adopted the Project Downtown Concept Plan, a community-driven vision that reimagines the future of Littleton’s historic core. Built on years of collaboration with residents, businesses and the Littleton Downtown Development Authority, the plan laid the groundwork for reinvestment in downtown infrastructure, mobility, and public spaces. Following a city council study session in September 2025, the council approved a funding strategy to advance Phase 1 — the Main Street Improvements — into design. This milestone marks the beginning of translating the community’s vision into detailed plans to replace aging infrastructure, improve safety and accessibility, and celebrate downtown Littleton’s distinctive character. The Main Street Improvements will modernize downtown infrastructure while preserving the area’s historic charm — enhancing safety, walkability, accessibility and the overall experience for residents, visitors and businesses alike. Stay tuned for more information in early 2026 on how to get involved as design work progresses and engagement opportunities are announced. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gcKuXzHz.

The City of Littleton is making strides toward its sustainability goals with the completion of its first comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory, a major milestone identified in the 2024 Environmental Stewardship Action Plan. The inventory establishes a 2023 baseline for emissions across both the community and municipal operations. Findings were presented to the Environmental Stewardship Board on July 2. Key results show that community-wide emissions totaled about 465,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023, with the largest sources coming from commercial energy use (33%), transportation (32%), and residential energy (27%). Municipal operations accounted for approximately 18,500 metric tons, with most emissions linked to water and wastewater treatment facilities. The inventory will help the City of Littleton set measurable climate goals and guide strategies for emissions reduction, resilience, and adaptation. Focus areas moving forward include energy efficiency, transportation, municipal operations, and community engagement.
