Presidential transitions in #highered are getting shorter, faster, and more complex. As tenures shrink and expectations grow, new presidents must build trust, gather intel, and set momentum almost immediately (all while inheriting institutions already mid-transformation). In this article from The Chronicle of Higher Education, Emma Jones shares why transition strategy is now mission-critical for both boards and new leaders.
How institutions navigate presidential transitions can deeply inform the success of the new leader. I’ve been honored to examine presidential transitions through the lens of long-serving presidents—both their transitions in and out of office. It was a pleasure to share with David Jesse some of those reflections, and what we see in our work at Carnegie and Credo—Powered by Carnegie as we engage with presidents, boards, cabinets, and campus communities.
