Great news! California State University Trustee Wenda Fong and her husband Daniel Fetterly have established the Fong & Fetterly Staff Award—the first systemwide recognition program solely for CSU staff. Each year, three individual staff members and one team of up to five members will each be honored with a $25,000 award in one of four categories—driving affordability, fostering equity, supporting first-generation students, and demonstrating leadership and innovation—totaling $100,000 in awards. "There is no system like us." These are the words of Dr. Dilcie Perez, CSU's deputy vice chancellor of Strategic Enrollment Management & Student Success, as she introduced our new #StudentSuccess Framework at our October Graduation Initiative 2025 Symposium. There truly is no other four-year public university system of our size, diversity and impact: 22 universities, nearly half a million students and, more than four million alumni—one in every 20 college graduates in the United States was #MadeInTheCSU. And it's because of this size and scale that the work we do to support our students is so critical. With our new Student Success Framework, we will be doing something that no other system in this nation is doing. Dr. Perez said: "We're not just changing the system. We're not just changing the communities we serve. We're not just changing the state. We are changing the nation." And when our CSU system coordinates, aligns and harnesses the unique strengths of each of our 22 universities, we can achieve a collective power and impact that far exceeds what any of us could achieve alone.
