WBNG TV 12 shined a light on #BUMPNewYork's fight for livable wages for human service workers across the state. We're proposing a $29 #minimumpay for New York’s state-contracted caregivers, the people who hold our communities together. As Melanie Hartzog, President and CEO of The New York Foundling, said: “More than 100,000 people will be lifted out of poverty and New York will see $23 billion in economic activity.” This isn’t just a policy change. This is a movement for dignity, stability, and a stronger New York. Know a caregiver who deserves a long-overdue raise? Share this message. Follow our movement.

Fighting for fair pay for New York’s human service workers.
About us
Bring Up Minimum Pay (BUMP) is an anti-poverty campaign fighting for a simple goal: pay a real living wage to the New Yorkers who care for us in our times of greatest need. Human service workers support children, people with disabilities, older adults, and families in crisis. Yet poverty wages paid by state contracts make it impossible to afford housing and basic necessities, drive high turnover and staff shortages and disrupt care families rely upon. We're advocating for New York State legislation to raise the base pay of nonprofit human service workers to $29 per hour—the bar for true economic security in New York State. The change would lift 100,000 New Yorkers out of poverty and drive up to $23 billion in new economic activity across the state. With your support, the BUMP campaign will ensure the same New Yorkers who work so hard every day to help families struggling with poverty aren’t forced to live on poverty wages themselves.

#BUMPNewYork joined key officials from Puerto Rico and New York at SOMOS, Inc. (fka Somos el Futuro, Inc.) to champion our campaign to raise pay for state-contracted human services workers to $29/hour. These workers care for children, people with disabilities, older adults, and families in crisis. Their work saves lives, yet state contracts often pay poverty wages—making it difficult to afford housing, driving high turnover and disrupting the care families rely on. Thank you to all our panelists for helping shape strategies that ensure those caring for our communities can achieve economic security. #SOMOS2025

Our goal is simple: A real living wage for those who take care of New Yorkers. #BUMPNewYork is advocating for state laws to raise the #minimumpay for nonprofit human service workers to $29/hour (with annual cost-of-living adjustments). A career in care shouldn't mean a life in poverty.

Today is Women’s Equality Day—a reminder that equality isn’t just a value, it’s a commitment. In New York, the vast majority of human services workers are women, many of whom are immigrants and women of color. They care for our children, elders, and neighbors—yet their wages fall thousands below the cost of living. This Women's Equality Day, we recommit to fighting for economic equity—because dignity starts with a paycheck that reflects the value of the work. 📢 Support legislation like Bill S8337, which would raise base wages for human services workers. Let’s turn equality into action. #WomensEqualityDay #HumanServices

From Senator Leroy Comrie: “Our human services workers are there for us when we need them most, caring for our seniors, supporting families, and holding our neighborhoods together. I’m proud to sponsor legislation that ensures this workforce, made up largely of women and immigrants, is treated with the same dignity and respect they show our communities every single day.” 👏 Thank you, Senator, for standing up for NY’s essential workers. #EssentialWorkers #EconomicJustice
