In the Notes from the Frontlines series at Nonprofit Quarterly, our colleague Deepa Iyer explores how organizations are responding to the current political landscape. This most recent piece looks at how authoritarian movements seek legitimacy by invoking a “Christian America” - and how a growing number of faith leaders and faith-rooted institutions are pushing back more loudly and visibly: https://lnkd.in/e4FabACf Image ID: The NPQ logo and title of the article: "Voices from the Frontlines of Christian Organizing," by Deepa Iyer, October 29, 2025. Below this is a photo of 6 organizers from CLUE (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice), with one person bearing a sign that reads "This is a safe space for immigrants." Additionally, a quote from Nina Fernando, the ED of Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign, reads: "Faith communities are one of the few places where people are in regular relationship in a multigenerational, multicultural setting with people who are not your family."

Equipping Nonprofits to Advance Social Change
About us
The Building Movement Project develops research, tools, training materials and opportunities for partnership that bolster nonprofit organizations’ ability to support the voice and power of the people they serve. For over a decade, BMP has been advancing the potential for nonprofit organizations to have an impact in building movements for progressive social change. We help organizations to align their social justice principles with their operating practices. Our practical resources and creative solutions help organizations innovate to meet the needs of the communities they serve and face the challenges of the external environment. We bring people together, sharing best practices and building bridges that lead to policies and approaches that support equity, fairness and sustainability. We offer a space for organizations and their allies to rethink how to engage their constituents and create more impact with their work. We provide alternatives to the current assumptions and expectations of how nonprofit organizations should be run, and envision a future in which nonprofits are doing their best work, for better communities.

Alice Wong passed away on Friday, November 14, at the age of 51. In a message she composed and asked her friend Sandy to share at the time of her passing, Alice wrote: "We need more stories about us and our culture. You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future." (@alicatsamurai on IG) As her family wrote on her IG page, Alice will be remembered "as being a fierce luminary in disability justice, a brilliant writer, editor and community organizer.” In honor of Alice, we're sharing a short clip here from the Solidarity Is This podcast archives, where Alice talks about growing up as an Asian American kid in the Midwest and the roots of her activism as a disability justice organizer. Please check out Alice's work at Disability Visibility Project: https://lnkd.in/d2pX3wq You can find this full podcast conversation at SolidarityIs: https://lnkd.in/epKVaNiu
