We are dedicated to providing help, hope, and healing to those in need throughout Western New York
About us
For over a century, Buffalo City Mission has been a pillar of support for the City of Buffalo, dedicated to serving individuals and families through its most challenging times. From the Great Depression to today's economic hardships, we are committed to restoring hope, dignity, and lives. Inspired by the words of Matthew 25:35, 'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,' Buffalo City Mission addresses the root causes of poverty and homelessness by providing comprehensive services that extend beyond basic needs. We offer a spectrum of care, including rescue resources like food and shelter, and restoration programs such as education, faith-based support, long-term housing, recovery support, and mental health services. By collaborating with over 80 community partners, we maximize our impact and create a network of support for those we serve. Our commitment extends to preventing homelessness through proactive outreach and providing crucial support to low-income individuals and families. We offer sustenance through daily meal service and provide essential goods, clothing, and food, free of charge, through our Agape Shop, strengthening the broader community and reflecting our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Yesterday the Buffalo City Mission felt a little brighter thanks to the volunteer team from ALKEGEN. They showed up ready to work and didn’t waste a minute. Cabinets went up. Racks took shape. Sandwiches were assembled with care. And by nightfall, those sandwiches were already in the hands of men and women coming in from the cold for Code Blue. What Alkegen brought wasn’t just tools or time. They brought heart. They brought a spirit of “we’re in this together.” And that spirit reaches far beyond our building. When companies choose service as part of who they are, the whole community feels it. Thank you, Alkegen, for reminding us what corporate compassion looks like in action.

We are honored to be named the lead agency for this season’s Code Blue initiative, announced today by the Western New York Coalition for the Homeless' Code Blue Collaborative. Code Blue provides emergency shelter and support for anyone experiencing homelessness when temperatures or wind chills fall below 32°F. We are committed to ensuring no one is left out in the cold this winter. https://lnkd.in/emCgMVx7

What a morning, Sabres fans! 🏒 "Turkeys for Tickets" was a success thanks to an incredible team effort! The Buffalo Sabres, Tops Markets, FeedMore WNY, Audacy, Inc. and the Buffalo City Mission joined forces to collect turkeys for families in need this Thanksgiving. Your generosity means we are on track to serve over 500 hot meals in-house and deliver an additional 5,500 meals across WNY on Thanksgiving! A huge thank you to everyone who came out and donated—you are providing meals and hope to countless neighbors. The need continues to grow, but so does the compassion of Western New York. Together, we're making sure no table is left empty. #BuffaloCityMission #FeedMoreWNY #BuffaloSabres #TopsFriendlyMarkets #TurkeysForTickets

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country with courage and sacrifice. At the Buffalo City Mission, we are proud to walk alongside our heroes—many of whom have faced incredible challenges after their service, including homelessness. Through our Veterans Program, we provide dedicated veteran-specific dorms, case management, and supportive services designed to help veterans rebuild their lives with dignity and stability. Every day, we see their strength, resilience, and leadership shine as they work toward new beginnings. A heartfelt thank you to Northwest Bank for coming in to serve a special Veterans Day lunch for our residents and community. Your generosity helped make this day of gratitude even more meaningful. To all our veterans—we thank you for your service, your strength, and your continued impact in our community. ❤️🤍💙 #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #BuffaloCityMission #NorthwestBank

🏀Big thanks to the Buffalo eXtreme! 🏀 Tonight, the Buffalo eXtreme basketball team joined us at the Buffalo City Mission serving dinner to our residents and bringing fun and laughter to Bingo night! This amazing team continues to show what it means to lead with heart and community spirit. They’re also collecting new hats, gloves, scarves, and socks at the XGEN Elite Sports Complex (694 Mineral Springs Rd., West Seneca, NY 14224) now through November 15th — helping keep our neighbors warm this winter. 🧣🧤🧦 Let’s show them some love, Buffalo! Due to the current hold on SNAP benefits, the Buffalo City Mission, located at 100 East Tupper, has added additional temporary weekly food pantry times to our normal pantry hours to help address the growing need in WNY. We understand how difficult this time is for many of our neighbors, and we’re here to help ensure access to food and support. Please note: Availability of items varies based on donations. These are temporary additional hours to address the current need in WNY. Once SNAP benefits resume, these hours will no longer be available.
