The Broward County Inspector General Selection and Oversight Committee (“Committee”) seeks qualified attorneys to serve on an on-call basis as Hearing Officers in quasi-judicial enforcement proceedings initiated by the Broward County Office of the Inspector General.
Pursuant to Section 10.01 of the Charter of Broward County, the Broward County Office of Inspector General and the Committee were established. The Charter authorizes the Committee to “select qualified Hearing Officers to preside over hearings” in connection with certain civil complaints filed by the Inspector General.
Resumes to provide Hearing Officer services must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2025, and should be submitted to: INSPECTOR GENERAL SELECTION & OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, in care of: Broward County Human Resources Division, 115 South Andrews Avenue, Room 508, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301, or by e-mail to staffing@broward.org. Please be aware that pursuant to Florida’s public records law, submissions are subject to disclosure.
The Committee anticipates selecting up to four (4) qualified applicants pursuant to this Request. Selection will be based on the following requirements and qualifications set forth herein. At its discretion, the Committee may elect to interview some, all, or none of the applicants.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be members of the Florida Bar, in good standing, for not less than ten (10) years.
Applicants must possess working knowledge of the Florida Evidence Code and the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, as amended.
Applicants must not have engaged in lobbying, as defined in the Broward County Code of Ordinances, before Broward County or any Municipality during the past three (3) years.
Please include in your response information on the amount of professional liability insurance coverage you maintain, including any deductible amounts and whether that insurance covers claims on services as a hearing officer.
FEES AND CHARGES
Hearing Officers will be compensated at the rate of $150.00 per hour, which shall include preparation and research, drafting of orders and rulings, conferences, and actual hearing time. There will be no reimbursement of expenses, and no compensation for travel time to and from hearings.
