  • A great read with National Director of Memory Care, Ann Coda, discussing American House's Living Well Memory Care program and Director of Corporate Life Enrichment, Amy Wallace, discussing American House's Longevity League program!

  • Following the American House Village of Rochester Candy Packing event for Soldiers' Angels and first responders, residents had a blast with GM Cares volunteers playing in "Minute to Win It" games! Beyond candy packing, the resident-focused event was all about building connections and having fun. The added bonus of cider and donuts from Yates Cider Mill was the cherry on top! #SeniorLiving #SoldiersAngels #YatesCidermill

  • Is there such a thing as too much candy!? American House Village was proud to join a program that reduces post-Halloween waste and shows love and support to service members and veterans! 118 pounds of candy were generously donated by the Ebeling Elementary School Student Council, with the help of Ebeling families and guided by teachers Kayley Hobbs and Marvin Stuehmer. This candy was shipped to the VA Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, through Soldiers’ Angels Treats for Troops. An additional 19 pounds of candy was contributed by volunteers from GM Cares. Volunteers and residents packed a total of 239 pounds of candy, all donated to the Erie VA Hospital and other first responders! After the job got done, residents and members from GM Cares enjoyed fun "Minute to Win It Cider and Donuts" games and goodies. Come back tomorrow for more on that! #SeniorLiving #SoldiersAngels

  • Teamwork makes the dreamwork! Our final first responders' luncheon post goes out to the teams that made it all happen! From the culinary team making a spectacular lunch for this special event to all the American House teams that came together in the wake of a tragedy, you are truly magical. "Our region and our teams here in Downriver just mobilized - no signal was sent out, nobody was asked, everybody showed up the night of the fire and was onsite available to help however that looked," said American house Riverview Executive Director Joe D'Angelo. "The days following the fire, I've never felt more fulfilled in my work, and I've never felt more proud in what I do, and I've never been more proud of the team I work with, American House, and all of us at the communities that were involved. I am just so proud of every single person that showed up that night and in the days that followed, who helped." A huge shoutout to the teams at American House Riverview, American House Southland, American House Westland Hunter, and American House Westland Joy for all of your hard work, dedication, and determination in ensuring all residents have a new home. • We promised you more...and here it is! One of the highlights of the first responders' luncheon last week was seeing everyone come together! Residents had the chance to shake hands, hug, and shed a few tears with their heroes as they personally thanked them for their fearless efforts. It was also a joy to see Southgate residents, who now live in different sister communities, embrace their American House family again, including staff and fellow residents whom they haven't seen since their safe evacuation. Thanks again to everyone involved in making this event happen! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled tomrrow for one more appreciation post, and check out the amazing news article from WXYZ News Detroit to hear more stories from first responders and American House residents: https://lnkd.in/eS8GRzq2

  • This week, American House Riverview hosted a luncheon to celebrate and honor the first responder teams who heroically ensured every resident was safely evacuated from the American House Southgate fire, as well as Director Diane Grabowski and her team at the Southgate Senior Center, for their help with our residents. The luncheon offered a meaningful moment for the crews to share their experiences and reflect on the events of that day: "We take our jobs very seriously, and we always prepare for the worst-case scenarios. When they happen, we can go right into action and do our jobs the best that we can," said Allen Park Fire Chief Jeff O'Riley. "It's what I expect out of my crews and
I know it's what is expected out of all the crews downriver. We come together as a team any time to help each other out." Southgate Fire Captain Dan Werling shared similar sentiments. "We [Downriver Fire and Police teams] were all working together to get residents out. I think we did a great job, no one was severely injured in the event, and I am just so thankful for everyone that came together to help." Everyone at American House can't thank all the first responders enough! Thank you to the teams at Southgate, Riverview, Allen Park, Brownstown, Lincoln Park, Wyandotte, Grosse Ile, Gibraltar, Huron Twp, Rockwood, Taylor, Detroit, and Flat Rock. You are all superstars!! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled on Monday for another appreciation post, and check out the amazing news article from WXYZ News Detroit to hear more stories from first responders and American House residents: https://lnkd.in/eS8GRzq2
