How often do you walk past the same people at work and give that awkward little smile? We work in a coworking space, and recently a bunch of incredible companies and teams moved onto what used to be a very quiet floor. We all passed each other daily but still didn’t really know much about one another. We had a small American team join the office next door and put a sign up saying 'We are new, come say hi'. For us Brits this was shocking… usually the most we’ll say to a stranger is that the weather is ‘a bit grey, isn’t it'. But we did, it was great to chat and learn more about them and their company and share the same about ourselves. After that we got thinking — it really is that simple and doesn’t have to be hard to break the ice. So, we decided enough is enough and to host a “Meet Our Neighbours” event for our floor. The idea was simple, to move past the awkward smiles and actually get to know the people we see every day. It ended up being such a lovely experience and a really important reminder that building connections is not just key in your personal life, it is vital at work too. We spend most of our time at work, and without a sense of community it is impossible to feel balanced. Whether you are in a private office, coworking, or remote, this is your little nudge to step out of your comfort zone, and start the chat. Also… can you guess who our new favourite neighbour is?? 🐶
