The Government has today published the Policy Statement for the upcoming Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement for 2026/27, alongside its response to the Fair Funding Review 2.0 consultation. Responding, Solace President Robin Tuddenham said: “We welcome the Government’s timely publication of its policy statement and response to the Fair Funding Review 2.0. Early clarity and certainty are essential for effective budget planning, and this step is helpful in that regard. “However, looking at the bigger picture, the local government finance system is still fundamentally broken. A significant funding gap persists, and long-awaited reforms to major demand and cost drivers—such as SEND and social care—remain unresolved and, for now, out of reach. “The Government rightly acknowledges that these systemic challenges cannot be fixed overnight.
