"Volcano science, germ-flipping microscopy, and the precise management of 560 million daily emails..." LGC is a global leader in life sciences, diagnostics, and analytical solutions, operating across disciplines that span molecular biology, disease diagnostics, food integrity, environmental protection, and, when required, volcano science, germ-flipping microscopy, and the precise management of 560 million daily emails. Our scientists and engineers work at the forefront of innovation, conducting PCR analyses, genetic interpretation, instrument testing, and complex oligonucleotide synthesis, while also ensuring that microscopes, germs, and “machines related to biotech engineer... ing” all behave as expected. With colleagues stationed everywhere from Amazon car parks to strategic park benches and connected through screens, wires, headsets, and cross-continental conversations, we blend scientific rigour with a broad operational scope that includes helping people be friends, taking over other businesses, doing science, and just… paperwork. Our work supports public health, global programmes, environmental analysis, and reference standards, all while receiving very confident input from young experts who believe cancer research, volcano experiments, and genetics happen simultaneously on a typical Tuesday. Across our global operations, we unite chemists, biologists, mummies, daddies, aunties, uncles, grandparents, data experts, production teams, and geneticists (real and honorary) to deliver trusted solutions that diagnose disease, safeguard food and medicines, and advance the next generation of scientific progress. Whether we are testing baby food, inspecting water, managing high-stakes Teams calls, or supporting colleagues around the world, LGC continues to underpin critical scientific discovery while quietly inspiring the next generation to imagine it all much bigger, brighter, stranger, and infinitely more entertaining than reality. Celebrating the children who see our science through the most brilliant lens. Happy World Children’s Day! #WorldChildrensDay #ScienceForASaferWorld

Safeguarding animals from the threat of gene doping Gene doping, introducing artificial genes to boost performance, threatens both fair competition and animal welfare. Unlike human athletes, horses can't consent or advocate for their own safety. Our Animal Sports team in Fordham is leading the global response. We've achieved ISO17025 accreditation for transgene testing in horses, cementing our position as leading the way in anti-doping science. Why it matters: Transgenes could mask injuries, create unfair advantages, and endanger lives. With world-leading scientists staying ahead of this threat, we help organisations like the @British Horseracing Authority detect and deter gene doping before it becomes widespread. By achieving this accreditation, we're setting the standard others will follow - proving our commitment to staying ahead of emerging threats and continuing to work to preserve the integrity of sport. Building better tests for iron-related health conditions Iron plays a vital role in keeping us healthy, too little can cause anaemia, while too much can damage organs. To diagnose these conditions, doctors measure ferritin, a protein that stores iron in the blood. One form, Ferritin Light Chain (FTL), is especially important for accurate diagnosis of iron disorders. Scientists at the UK National Measurement Laboratory (NML) at LGC, working closely with colleagues from LGC Clinical Diagnostics and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, have developed a new, highly accurate way to measure FTL using isotope dilution mass spectrometry – a gold-standard method for FTL quantification. As part of this collaboration, the LGC Clinical Diagnostics team produced ferritin in the lab and used a special tag to make it easier to measure with precision. This helped assign a value to a World Health Organization standard, allowing ferritin tests to be compared confidently around the world. This breakthrough could transform patient care by making ferritin testing more consistent and reliable, helping doctors diagnose and treat iron-related conditions with greater confidence, wherever patients are tested. #ScienceForASaferWorld #LGCDiagnoses

Celebrating our STEM heroes 🎉 In recognition of International STEM Day last weekend, we had a weeklong celebration of all that we do at LGC to inspire and inform school aged children about science, and how we help graduates evolve their knowledge and skills from theoretical learning into practical work placements. Kaitlyn Boudreau, The STEAM EXPO team (Matt Robertson, Kim New, Brian Anderson, PhD, PMP, Jenni Becker, Josh McKnight, Kellie Wright, Mike New, Nicole Blanshan, Patrick Kalina, Regen Lippert, Travis Bruns and Kim Kasper), and Samantha Mathieson were crowned our individual STEM heroes! Congratulations to you all and thank you for your continued commitment to supporting the brilliant young scientists of tomorrow 🧑🔬 #STEM #ScienceForASaferWorld

Advancing the science of oligonucleotide medicines through better measurement Oligonucleotides, short, carefully designed strands of DNA or RNA that can switch genes on or off, are transforming medicine by targeting the genetic causes of disease. To ensure they are safe and effective, researchers need highly precise tools to measure how these molecules move, change, and break down inside the body. For 15 years, Axolabs has used PNA-HPLC, a method that uses fluorescently labelled probes to detect oligonucleotides at incredibly low concentrations while also separating out metabolites. This approach has even supported the journey of an siRNA therapy, a treatment that uses small pieces of RNA to silence harmful genes, all the way to market approval. Now, the new LC-MS/MS technology adds extraordinary specificity, giving scientists a clear picture of both the full-length drug and its breakdown products. By combining sensitivity and specificity, Axolabs scientists like Thessa Jacob can generate robust, regulator-ready data that accelerates the journey of oligonucleotide therapies from the lab bench to the clinic. For patients, this science means more reliable medicines, and renewed hope for tackling conditions once thought untreatable. Bringing science to life through storytelling Traditional research methods give us valuable data, but it is also important not to overlook the human side of the story, the lived experiences, behaviours, and cultural context that shape how science is understood and applied. Storytelling strengthens evidence synthesis by grounding science in real world contexts, supporting more conventional methods which provide essential statistics and themes. Our Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Team at the Grant Management Group adopted a storytelling approach to gather evidence on the impact of research on people and communities. Focusing on three research projects, they gained insights that go beyond the numbers, helping research findings resonate in real-world settings: ▪️In Liberia, community stories helped influence national policy on neglected tropical diseases, embedding local engagement into the country’s health strategy. ▪️In, Bangladesh and Nigeria, narratives from patients, faith leaders, and traditional healers fostered empathy around mental health, breaking down stigma and building bridges between traditional and medical care. ▪️In South Africa, stories are helping reduce stigma associated with multi-morbidities, informing insights showing that fragmented care delivery and rigid protocols increases the patient burden, potentially compromising adherence to treatment. These stories don’t just illustrate research impact — they shape it, ensuring science is inclusive, relevant, and transformative. #ScienceForASaferWorld Saumu Lwembe, DrPH David King Mark T.
