Two weeks ago, I ran a poll asking hiring managers in Power Delivery what their biggest challenge is going in to 2026, and retaining experienced staff came out on top. Interestingly, a recent NETA World study shows the electrical testing space is facing the exact same issue. Some key takeaways from the study include: • Senior field technicians are leaving faster than companies can replace them and it’s creating real skill gaps on outage and commissioning work. • Technicians want more predictable schedules and clearer development paths, which the study shows are major drivers of retention. • Experienced testers carry so much system knowledge that losing even one person puts extra pressure on the whole team.
