Groundwork is a charity working locally and nationally to transform lives in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities.
About us
Groundwork was established in 1981 at a time of political, social and economic challenge as an experiment to help communities cope with change and work together to improve their lives and neighbourhoods. We’re passionate about creating a future where every neighbourhood is vibrant and green, every community is strong and able to shape its own destiny and no-one is held back by their background or circumstances. What drives us is the recognition that in every community – however disadvantaged – there are deep reserves of pride in the local area and people with the passion and ideas to improve their circumstances and surroundings. Groundwork exists to harness that pride and unlock that passion through services, projects and programmes that change people’s lives now but also make our communities more resilient for the future. We work with partners to address these challenges in three ways. • We improve people’s prospects - by increasing the confidence, skills, wellbeing and employability of those struggling in education or out of work. • We create better places - by making communities greener, safer and healthier and by enabling people to work together to bring about change in their local area. • We promote greener living and working – to help people and businesses reduce their environmental impact, improve their health, cut waste and save money.

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with Earlybird AI, an innovative technology company that specialises in AI-driven solutions to improve support services. Their support will help us deliver the Northern Futures initiative, assisting 18–24-year-olds with health challenges in the North East to access work and training opportunities as well as other projects. #NorthernFutures #EarlybirdAI #YouthEmployment #HealthAndWellbeing #NorthEastUK
We're thrilled to announce that we're partnering with Groundwork NE & Cumbria on the Northern Futures trailblazer across 7 local authority areas, commissioned by the The North East Combined Authority, starting this week! Groundwork are using the Earlybird platform to onboard and triage their participants, to save time and streamline administration for their team of work coaches and to drive impact in delivering training and employment. This will work towards ensuring that all 18 to 24-year-olds have the chance to earn or learn, supporting the 948,000 young people that are not in education, employment or training in the UK and 21.8% of economically inactive citizens in the region. Fantastic to work with jacqui hodgson, Mary Blackwell, Joanne Holloway & Natalie Wrench on this exciting initiative! We can’t wait to see the shared impact we’ll create together.

Adopt an Oyster 🦪 To mirror the number of wild oysters released into the sea, 4,000 hand-crafted oysters are being lovingly made by Groundwork NE & Cumbria and its volunteers across the UK, and each one can be yours with a minimum £10 donation. Every adoption helps fund the delivery of The Wild Oysters project, a five-year rewilding initiative working to rebuild oyster habitats, strengthen our coastlines, and protect communities from flooding, erosion, and climate change. 🌊 Together, we can make our seas stronger; one oyster at a time. To join our waitlist, or to crochet an oyster, find out more in the comments. #AdoptAnOyster #GNEC #StrongerShores #WildOysters

Today we are recognising Stress Awareness Day; and would like to highlight the West Cumbria Mental Health Match Funding Challenge. The West Cumbria Mental Health Match Funding Challenge is a partnership aimed at strengthening local mental health services. Through the scheme, every £1 donated is matched by Sellafield Ltd, doubling the impact of community fundraising efforts. The initiative builds on the success of the West Cumbria Mental Health Partnership, which has already supported thousands of adults, children, and young people with accessible wellbeing programmes. "The counselling sessions allowed me to unload and to speak about things which I haven't spoken about in detail before, just to try and move on past them." - Chris Find out more and donate today at: https://lnkd.in/eHH6PuVW Sellafield Ltd, Together We CIC, Cumbria Community Foundation
