We’re honoured to share that the Sydney Metro City Stations project has received the 2025 Walter Burley Griffin Award for Urban Design at the National Architecture Awards. This project is a collective achievement, an unprecedented convergence of architectural disciplines, civic purpose, and urban regeneration. Eight stations, each unique yet harmonised within a unified transport framework, now anchor a new rhythm across the city. Grimshaw is proud to contribute to this legacy through our design for Martin Place Station, a spatial intersection of movement, memory, and civic scale. We share this recognition with our collaborators at JPW, Tzannes, Lendlease, ASPECT Studios, Elke Haege Landscape Architects, Arup, and the extraordinary public artists Mikala Dwyer, Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro, Tina Havelock Stevens, Debra Beale, Stevie Fieldsend, and the reimagined works of Tom Bass and Douglas Annand. We also acknowledge the broader Sydney Metro team and the many hands who shaped this network into something more than infrastructure: a public realm of lasting meaning. Thank you to the Australian Institute of Architects and the jury for recognising the intent behind the work. #UrbanDesign #Architecture #PublicSpace #CivicInfrastructure #SydneyMetro #Grimshaw #WalterBurleyGriffin #MartinPlace #DesignForMovement

Grimshaw was pleased to contribute to Data Centres: Making Room for Sydney’s Growing Digital Appetite, hosted by the Committee for Sydney. Associate Principal Erik Escalante presented insights from our Venice Biennale 2025 exhibition, highlighting how data centres can evolve from isolated infrastructure to integrated civic assets. As urban systems become more interdependent, these facilities offer the potential to support energy resilience, water circularity and community-scaled utility. They can also underpin urban renewal precincts that integrate industry with housing. From thermal loops and microgrids to embedded water systems, the case study illustrated how digital infrastructure can support both liveability and long-term sustainability when designed as part of the city. More on the project here: https://lnkd.in/e-x-q5ea Thank you to the excellent panel, including Simon Draper, Kiersten Fishburn, Kek Tang and Paul Higham, for the stimulating conversation. Thanks also to Matthew Lee, Chris Suttor and Alex Hooper for their contributions. We extend our appreciation to Jacobs and Endeavour Energy (NSW) for supporting and hosting the event. The Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC) has been recognised on the global stage at the 2025 IOC IAKS Architecture Prize. Presented by the International Olympic Committee – IOC and IAKS International, the prize highlights design that is sustainable, inclusive and forward thinking. From 69 international submissions, nine projects were selected. PAC is the only Australian recipient. At Grimshaw, we believe design holds its greatest power when shaped with purpose. PAC reflects that belief through a partnership of alignment and intent with the City of Parramatta, Andrew Burges Architects, McGregor Coxall, and a team deeply committed to the work. PAC brings together civic generosity, spatial clarity and long-term vision. It meets community need while offering a place of lasting quality. With appreciation to the City of Parramatta for the trust placed in us, our project leads Josh Henderson and Elena Lucio Bello, and to all who contributed their skill and care to this project. #Grimshaw #IAKS #IAKSCongress2025 #AquaticCentre #AquaticDesign #AustralianPools #SportsArchitecture #SportsInnovation #FutureofSport

An infrastructure for wellbeing: urban, public spaces are critical social assets, potential pockets of life that bind our individual everyday together. Grimshaw's Al Farjan's Playgrounds is a prototype – developed as part of Qatar Olympic Committee’s strategic plan to develop a culture of sports – a concept for integrated urban sports and recreation that puts wellbeing and people’s health deep into, and inherently part of, urban community living. The project is part of this year’s Dubai Design Week Dubai Design District (d3) Architecture Exhibition and responds to the exhibition theme of community, bringing forward the responsibility and impact design has on creating equitable communities that can tackle real societal issues. These 'playgrounds' are conceived as a kit of parts, a deployable hub of activity, confronting sedentary lifestyle and igniting social interaction. Al Farjan Playgrounds: https://lnkd.in/e9SpCemi Dubai Design Week runs from 4-9 November and the exhibition, held in partnership with the RIBA Gulf Chapter, can be found at Building 6 Atrium, Dubai Design District (d3). A Big and Clever Idea: Australia’s High Speed Rail On this week’s episode of the Grimshaw Cities Podcast, Tim Williams speaks with Tim Parker, CEO of the High Speed Rail Authority (Australia). In this episode, Tim shines a light on his unique insights from an impressive CV and speaks with both passion and clarity about leading his latest large scale project: the Federal Government’s initiative to build high speed rail initially between Newcastle and Sydney on Australia’s east cost, with the ambition to build further on this link in future. This is a massive transport undertaking, promoting a low carbon transition from car and air over to rail, and economic and housing development and community opportunity. A project of national significance, and quite possibly international significance as well, likely to engage listeners across diverse professional, policy, and geographic communities. Big ambitions for a big country: seems about right to us. 'I just built it like a giant piece of Meccano - it was some sort of cross between mechanical engineering, sculpture and rocket science.' - Sir Nick Grimshaw The latest issue of THE PLAN shares the value of ideas that has made Grimshaw what it is today. From Nick's first project - the Service Tower for Student Housing - through the International Terminal Waterloo, Eden Project Cornwall and Ludwig Erhard Haus. The craft of building, pioneering design, exploring different manufacturing techniques and materials and working directly with fabricators to transform a concept into reality. 'All this took a highly investigative mind, drive and the art of persuasion'. Andrew Whalley OBE #pioneeringpractice #architecturewithpurpose Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d8p8ZMDZ

Airports are intricate systems: people, planes, baggage, and operations converging in one environment. Our role brings balance through clarity. We translate competing priorities into shared pathways, ensuring movement feels composed and intuitive. With structure and rhythm, we design environments that perform with purpose. Because when architecture listens, complexity becomes coherence. #Grimshaw #Architecture #Aviation
