Is LinkedIn becoming Facebook? I created my LinkedIn account in 2017, but truthfully, I never actively used it until a few months ago. I’ve been actively using Facebook since 2012-not for personal use, as I only post on my personal account every few years—but I’m on the platform daily, building audiences and learning the algorithm. I keep seeing people talk about how LinkedIn is becoming Facebook, and I’m genuinely curious to understand why. I’m still very new to the LinkedIn ecosystem, and I know I have a lot to learn about the platform. From my personal experience, when I go on Facebook, it’s easy to get lost in a loop of random, low-value dopamine. Sure, it can be entertaining if you have nothing better to and need to kill time. But when I come on LinkedIn, it feels different. I see success stories from founders. I see people sharing insights, wins, and useful tips. There’s networking and positivity. It’s a different kind of dopamine rush—and mindset—LinkedIn seems to provide. Again, I’m still new to the platform, so I’m sure I’m missing a lot or may have missed how LinkedIn used to be compared to now. One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of recycled, outdated, or AI-generated content. On Facebook, it actually seems easier to find original, fresh content. Would love to hear feedback on why you think people are leaving LinkedIn and comparing it to Facebook.

  • Eric Yuan, the founder and CEO of Zoom, was born in China and developed an interest in technology while studying applied mathematics and computer science. Inspired by Bill Gates, he dreamed of moving to the United States to be part of the tech revolution. However, his journey was far from easy—his visa application to the U.S. was rejected eight times before finally being approved on the ninth try. Once in America, he joined WebEx, a video conferencing company, where he rose through the ranks due to his strong work ethic and deep technical skills. After Cisco acquired WebEx, Yuan noticed that the platform wasn't keeping up with users' needs, especially around ease of use and video quality. He proposed improvements, but they were ignored. Frustrated, he left Cisco in 2011 to build a new video conferencing solution from scratch-what would become Zoom. In the early days, convincing investors was difficult, and he funded much of the project himself. Yuan focused obsessively on the product, believing that a smooth, user-friendly video experience would stand out in a crowded market. Zoom launched in 2013 and slowly gained traction, but it wasn't until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 that the platform exploded in popularity. As millions turned to Zoom for work, school, and socializing, the company became a household name, and Yuan was celebrated for his vision and perseverance. Despite initial struggles and numerous rejections, he built one of the most successful and impactful tech companies of the decade. His story is a powerful reminder that persistence, product obsession, and listening to users can turn even the toughest journey into global success.
