Get personalisation in Gemini Apps

You can get a personalised experience from Gemini Apps based on your past Gemini chats. You can also customise how Gemini responds to you by giving it instructions.

Important:

These features are not currently available in the UK, EEA or Switzerland
To use this feature, you must be signed in to the Gemini app. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
You'll need a personal Google Account. For now, this feature isn't available to users with a work or school Google Account.
For now, this features isn't available for Gems or in Live chats. In a text chat, you can ask Gemini to reference a past Gemini Live conversation,

Get personalisation based on your past Gemini chats

Important: This feature only works when Keep activity is on. For now, this feature isn't available if:

You're aged under 18 or signed in to a work or school Google Account.
You're in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

You can get a personalised experience from Gemini Apps based on your past chats when you select 2.5 Pro from the drop-down at the top of the screen.

Turn personalisation from your past Gemini chats on or off

You can change whether Gemini Apps use your past chats to personalise responses at any time.

Go to gemini.google.com.
At the bottom, click Settings Personal context.
Turn 'Your past chats with Gemini' off or on .

Find and delete your past Gemini chats

You can find and delete your past chats in Your Gemini Apps activity. Learn how to manage your Gemini Apps activity.

Add and manage your instructions for Gemini

You can customise how Gemini responds to you if you add instructions. For example, you could create instructions so that Gemini will:

Start responses with a short summary
Use bullet points for long paragraphs

Add instructions for Gemini Apps

Go to gemini.google.com.
At the bottom, click Settings Personal context
Under 'Your instructions for Gemini', click Add +.
Enter instructions that you want Gemini Apps to apply to every chat.
Click Submit.

Find, edit or delete your instructions for Gemini

Go to gemini.google.com.
At the bottom, click Settings Personal context Your instructions for Gemini.
Find the instructions that you want to view, edit or delete.
Click More Edit or Delete .

Turn your instructions for Gemini on or off

You can change whether Gemini Apps use your instructions at any time.

At the bottom, click Settings Personal context.
Turn 'Your instructions for Gemini' off or on .

How to tell if Gemini used your past chats

If Gemini used past chats in a response, you'll find 'Previous chats' in 'Sources and related content' at the bottom of the response. Gemini may occasionally make mistakes and display this label incorrectly.
