When you link your Spotify account to your Google Account, you can ask the Gemini mobile app to play or search for music or podcasts on Spotify. For example, you can ask for music by song, album, artist, playlist and more.
What you need
- The Gemini mobile app, including as your mobile assistant. Learn more about the Gemini mobile app.
- The Spotify app is currently not supported in Gemini in Google Messages or the Gemini web app.
- Be signed in to the Gemini mobile app. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
- Keep Activity on. The Spotify app is only available when Keep Activity is on.
Important:
- Spotify plays the specific song or podcast that you requested only if you have a Spotify Premium subscription.
- Apps work the same way for both spoken and typed prompts. On Android mobile devices, if 'Hey Google' doesn't work, check if 'Hey Google' and Voice Match are set up.
Connect Spotify to Gemini Apps
To connect to Spotify, your Spotify account must be linked to your Google Account. You might have already linked it through another Google service. If not, follow the steps below to connect Spotify to your Google Account through the Gemini mobile app.
- Ask the Gemini app to play, search or browse media on Spotify.
- If Spotify isn't connected, you'll get the option to connect it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.

Play or search for media on Spotify
Important: If you've connected more than one media app and don't specify one in your request, Gemini uses the last media app that you used. To use another one that's available, you can mention the music service or '@' mention it in your prompt.

What Gemini Apps can't do with Spotify
Gemini Apps can't perform certain actions in Spotify for you, like:
- Create a Spotify playlist or radio
- Control media playback with commands like pause, resume, next and previous
