Manage members in a DM created from Calendar
With continuous meeting chat, you can send messages to meeting participants before, during and after a meeting in Google Chat from a computer or mobile device. Continuous meeting chat is available to all business and enterprise users. Learn how to use Chat with Google Meet.
You can use the dedicated conversations from your meetings to:
- Remind or prepare attendees for the meeting.
- Chat during the meeting.
- Access the conversation through Chat after the meeting has ended. For users in the same organization as the meeting host, after the meeting has ended, you can access the conversation through Chat.
When you create a DM from a Google Calendar invite, it links to the event's invite list. This happens when you:
- Select “Chat with Guests” from the Calendar invite.
- Access the calendar reminder in the Chat roster.
- Send the first message in Meet when continuous meeting chat is enabled.
You can add or remove members during or after a meeting.
- Before or during a meeting: To add or remove someone from a DM created from a Calendar event, update the Calendar invite. You can’t update the members through the DM in Chat.
- After a meeting: You can add or remove members directly within the Chat DM.
When you use the “Chat with Guests” option to create a DM from Calendar, third-party (3P) or external users aren’t included. When they join the meeting, they can find the messages sent after the time they joined. They have access to these messages only from within the meeting chat, and have no access once the meeting ends.
Tip: The host can turn off continuous meeting chat in the settings under “Chat Moderation.” Learn how to use Chat with Google Meet.
