On 13 November, Ericsson and Easypaisa were awarded “Social Inclusion Project of the Year” at the Payments Awards 2025 in London. This marks the second consecutive win at the Payments Awards and the third industry recognition this year for this impactful collaboration. Andrew Lloyd attended the ceremony to receive the award on behalf of Ericsson. #easypaisa continues to play a leading role in advancing Pakistan’s fintech ecosystem, offering a broad range of services including digital payments, savings, goal-based budgeting and micro-insurance. As global leaders meet in Brazil for COP30, digitalization and AI are central to accelerating the energy transition. Today’s electricity grids were not designed for distributed and fluctuating renewable energy. To phase out fossil fuels, we need more clean electricity and a far more digitalized energy system with stronger data sharing between end users, distributors and producers. At the same time, concerns about the electricity consumption of the ICT sector, AI and data centers are increasing. Ericsson’s research shows that while data traffic grew by ~80x from 2007–2023, the ICT sector’s electricity use grew only 1.4x. AI consumed less than 1% of ICT electricity in 2023, and continued efficiency gains in AI chips, servers and networks will be essential as AI develops. There is also a clear difference between energy-intensive generative AI and more dedicated, energy-lean AI for specific functions such as grid control. These dedicated solutions can run on edge computing or in local data centers, and they require far less power. To support forecasting, grid management and flexibile solutions, advanced connectivity is critical. This is why 5G Standalone is so important. With a full 5G core, a 5G SA network can enable the advanced services needed for the energy sector’s digital transformation including network slicing, edge computing, 5G voice, RedCap devices, time-critical communication, network exposure and enhanced Fixed Wireless Access. 👉 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/erxJPD89
