The BNZ Breakers Pride controversy this week (see article) is a simple lesson and reminder in the need to explicit commitments backed by policy, education and wrap around when it comes to Rainbow Inclusion to avoid this type of PR nightmare and brand mess. Sponsoring organisations, teams and projects requires clear values expectations in sponsorship contracts, and this might also come with support from you to around education, resources and advice. It is not enough to be silent on these matters - your influence and expectations matters to Rainbow communities. We applaud BNZ for speaking up, however the ship has already sailed and outcome for the Breakers decided. Pride Pledge condemns the New Zealand Coalition Government's pause on puberty blockers An outrageous and unforgivable aggression from the New Zealand Coalition Government today towards our Trans Communities. Announcing the pause on puberty blockers is one thing, but during Trans Awareness Week is a nasty and calculated attack on Trans Communities. New Zealand First this is disgusting. The removal of puberty blockers will immediately cause harm. This is a winding back of human rights and it is political, no based on medical evidence. “The ban will lead to a deterioration in mental health, increased risk of suicidality and increased dysphoria in gender diverse children and young people, and will put them at a higher risk of experiencing marginalisation and discrimination,” says Dr Elizabeth McElrea, GP specialist in gender affirming care. This government shows it's true colours again targeting minority, marginalized groups for political gain for and frankly in bad taste. Shame on everyone in government today.
