🌍 Trade policy is no longer a side issue in climate action — it’s central to the green transition. In an op-ed for the Financial Times, our CEO Laurence Tubiana argues that governments must address the growing share of “embodied emissions” in traded goods and materials. Nearly a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to international trade — making cooperation on standards, pricing, and imported emissions critical for a fair and effective decarbonisation strategy. COP30 could be the 'People’s COP' At this year's climate conference in Belém, the conversation cannot be limited to pledges and targets. It must also focus on rebuilding trust between citizens and the climate process. The Buildings Strategy Days have come to a close — two energising days in Mechelen that brought together over 90 participants from our partner organisations across Europe to strategise, connect, and exchange ideas on decarbonising buildings. Together, we explored how to deliver the energy transition in homes amid today’s challenges, how to seize emerging opportunities, and how to ensure the transition works for people — with #affordability at the heart of our strategy. We were inspired by the impact stories shared by our community, showcasing real change across Europe’s built environment. We collaborated on the road ahead and learned from experts working to make the #EnergyTransition a reality. We’re proud of the work our community is doing to drive change across Europe’s built environment. A special thanks to #StadMechelen for the warm welcome and insightful study visit — a great way to see the energy transition in action.

New survey: European businesses want strong sustainability rules – despite political efforts to weaken them.   As EU policymakers debate rolling back corporate sustainability requirements under the Omnibus Simplification Package, a new YouGov poll commissioned by E3G and supported by ECF reveals a clear message from business leaders:   📊 From 2,500+ business leaders across five major EU economies: ✅ 63% say it’s fair to require large companies to  implement climate transition plans ✅ 68% want the EU to lead globally on sustainability standards ✅ 55% see environmental sustainability as key to competitiveness ✅ 50% acknowledge that regularly collecting and reporting sustainability data helps with attracting investment ✅ Business leaders show preference to keep mandatory sustainability reporting for companies from 250 employees    Far from seeing sustainability as “red tape,” businesses view it as a competitive edge – and want clear, consistent rules and standards to guide investment and innovation.   🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eY2WwntT

🌍 The climate movement is strong — but it needs to be stronger. In a new op-ed for Alliance magazine, ECF CEO Laurence Tubiana and Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF)’s Sonia Medina reflect on the challenges facing climate philanthropy — and the opportunities we must seize to build a more resilient, collaborative ecosystem. As legal, financial, and political pressures mount, our community must move from defense to action. That means strengthening the connective tissue between funders, regranters, and frontline organisations — and investing in the “ecosystem anchors” that keep us agile and responsive. It also means embracing an ecosystem mentality. In a system as interdependent as ours, we are only as strong as our weakest link.
