Team SIGMA OS at Open Source India 2025 (Nov 5 & 6) We had the opportunity to attend Open Source India (OSI) — one of Asia’s largest open-source conferences, bringing together developers, engineers, product teams, and companies contributing to open-source technologies. At the event, we engaged directly with engineering and leadership teams from Google, SAP, Autodesk, Sysdig, Kafka, Snowflake, and many others. We presented SIGMA OS, our context-aware, AI-powered operating system designed for offline inference and system-level automation. Google: Their team had in-depth discussions with us around our OS-level agent architecture, local inference pipeline, and automation model. Sysdig: Their senior leadership connected us with Emanuela Zaccone Zaccone (Senior Manager) for deeper technical follow-ups on SIGMA OS. Autodesk: Senior Manager MR ANIL MENAKATH and the Talent Acquisition team listened to our explanation of SIGMA OS, appreciated the initiative, and expressed interest in visiting Sahyadri for a campus recruitment drive. Their encouragement was truly motivating. We also attended multiple tech sessions led by engineering managers and open-source maintainers, where they demonstrated how large organizations build and maintain production-grade open-source systems. Overall, OSI gave us industry-grade exposure, valuable insights, and strong networking opportunities with companies actively shaping the open-source ecosystem. A proud milestone for Team SIGMA OS.

There is a greater need for open source in the AI era. The reasons are innovation, choice, software power, fueling the economy, grow entrepreneurship, localization. This is in addition to proprietary software and innovation in companies. We need both. AI is different because, just open software is not enough. We need openness in all aspects. Open data, open weights, open hardware architecture. And open mind. I do my bit in shaping the present and future, as Advisor to Open Source India conference for the last 10 years. Many thanks to Rahul Chopra and Niraj Sahay for running these initiatives. Open Source India Open Source For You Magazine #opensource #AI

✨ Just wrapped up my talk at the 22nd Edition of Open Source India, and wow… it was fun! 🚀 Now, full disclaimer, I’m not an #eBPF expert (yet 😅). But somewhere down the rabbit hole of #Kubernetes and o#bservability, I stumbled upon eBPF, and it instantly hooked me. It’s such a fascinating piece of tech that I couldn’t just keep it to myself. My mission? To make sure at least a few folks left the talk thinking, “Okay, what on earth is eBPF?” and immediately opened #Google (or #GPT 😜). If that happened, I’d call that a win. Huge thanks to the EFY Group and Niraj Sahay for this amazing opportunity, to be part of one of Asia’s biggest open-source conferences and to share the stage with so many brilliant people was an absolute honor. 🙌 I also had the best company, RAHUL M S and Reyvanth M, my travel buddies. It was their first time in #Bangalore and their first big conference. Watching their excitement throughout the event was like reliving my own first-time experience (minus the panic before going on stage 😂). Now let’s talk about Bangalore (Something I haven't done before). At this point, it’s starting to feel a little personal. I mean, sure, I’ve only ever gone there for conferences and talks, but every single visit just… hits different. The city’s got this crazy blend of chaos and charm and somehow, I always end up making more friends and memories than I expect. This time, I obviously got to meet Achanandhi M again, who’s been part of my community journey from the early days (he couldn’t make it to my talk, but we still made time to catch up 😄). And then there’s Fazlur Rahman Khan, who, in my world, is pretty much a celebrity, and yet one of the most grounded and friendliest people you’ll ever meet. I also got to catch up with Varun Gopal, whom I've met a few times, sadly I couldn't get a picture with him (Next time!) And finally, the real showstopper - the food (I'm gonna include those pictures as well this time 😌). My past trips to Bangalore were always too rushed. This time, I had the freedom to actually explore the city and delve into its food scene. Because honestly, Bangalore has everything. From fancy filter coffee to questionable late-night dosas, it’s a food lover’s side quest waiting to happen. 🍛☕ Every trip leaves me with a little more gratitude, a few more stories, and a stronger reason to keep coming back. So, until next time, Namma Bengaluru ❤️ #OpenSourceIndia #OSI2025 #OpenSource #eBPF #Kubernetes #Tetragon #Community #cncf #opensourceindia2025 #software #Programming #tech #computerscience #developer #softwareengineering #softwaredevelopment #softwaredeveloper #oss #bangaluru #food #streetfood

✨ Reflecting on Day 1 of Open Source India 2025 — Bengaluru ✨ I had the opportunity to attend Day 1 (Nov 5) of Open Source India 2025 at the NIMHANS, Bangalore Convention Centre, and it was an incredible learning experience filled with insights, innovation, and inspiration from some of the best minds in tech! 💡 Google Open Source Keynote — Guru Bala, Technology Leader, Google Cloud The day kicked off with an impactful keynote by Guru Bala, Customer Engineering Manager at Google Cloud, on “The Business of Open Source Google Cloud.” He highlighted how open-source fuels innovation, scalability, and collaboration — showing how Google is making open models and ecosystems more accessible than ever. ⚡ Demystifying the Mahabharata with GraphRAG — Neo4j Another fascinating session was by Siddhant Agarwal, Developer Relations Lead, APAC at Neo4j, titled “From Ancient Epic to Modern Marvel: Demystifying the Mahabharata Chatbot with GraphRAG.” He demonstrated how GraphRAG (Graph Retrieval-Augmented Generation) can bring structure and reasoning to large-scale narratives like the Mahabharata — blending mythology, AI, and graph databases in a way that made technical storytelling come alive. 🔄 From Inner Source to Open Source — Siemens Technology & Services Next, I attended a fantastic session by Laxminarayan Chandrashekar from Siemens, who shared how Siemens transitioned from inner source practices to open source contributions. Hearing how large enterprises nurture open-source culture internally before sharing with the world was truly insightful. 🏥 AMRIT — Empowering ASHA Workers Through Open Source One of the most inspiring sessions was by Dr. Mithun James from Piramal Swasthya, who introduced AMRIT, an open-source health platform being built for ASHA workers and community healthcare. It was amazing to see open-source principles driving social impact and accessibility for frontline healthcare in India. 🧠 Gemini CLI Workshop — Google Cloud To wrap up the day, I joined the Gemini CLI hands-on workshop by Shashi Ranjan and Abhradip Mukherjee from Google Cloud. Exploring the practical power of the Gemini command-line interface gave a real sense of how generative AI tools are evolving for developers. 🌱 Key Takeaways ✅ Open-source isn’t just about code — it’s about community and purpose. ✅ Enterprise collaboration through inner source is a great path to openness. ✅ Tech can be a bridge for public good — projects like AMRIT prove it. ✅ Hands-on learning with new AI tools like Gemini CLI is the best way to grow.
