The Flipkart Sustainability Action Summit 2025, held on 18 November at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, signalled a decisive shift in India’s transition toward circularity and a low-carbon future. The panel discussion on with Akshima Ghate, Managing Director, RMI India; Rachna Arora, Director, Climate Change & Circular Technologies, GIZ; Sundar Senthilnathan, Head of Public Affairs for India Region, H&M; Sashidhar Vempala, Chief Sustainability Officer, Unilever; and Vinod Bhatt, Senior Director & Head of Supply Chain, HP; moderated by Rathish Balakrishnan, Co-founder and Managing Partner, Sattva Consulting; laid out what greener supply chains will demand: faster EV adoption, stronger reverse-logistics systems and deeper brand co-investment in supplier sustainability. Shri Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, in his address, reinforced that scaling sustainable textiles hinges on shared responsibility, robust recycling infrastructure and transforming successful local models into investable, nationwide solutions. Shobha Raghavan, CEO, Saahas Zero Waste, in a fireside chat moderated by Govindraj M K, CHRO & CSR Leader, Myntra, made it clear that zero-waste outcomes depend on data, decentralised systems and organisational ownership, indicating a shift from awareness to accountability. Flipkart expands its Zero Waste programme, diverting over 21,000 tonnes of waste from landfills and incineration across its supply chain. With eight more facilities earning TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Gold Certification from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) in 2025, Flipkart now operates 12 certified sites across India. The certified facilities have collectively achieved a waste diversion rate of over 96%, with several exceeding 99%. These sites now represent more than 57% of Flipkart’s total operational waste footprint. Flipkart’s waste-as-resource approach includes reusable logistics assets, carton reuse, internal innovations like Moonshine Shop, and circularity partnerships that recover and repurpose paper, plastic, and wood waste. Flipkart continues to invest in responsible waste management systems and sustainable operations that strengthen its long-term circular economy goals. Flipkart is deepening its footprint in Gujarat, driving digital growth, entrepreneurship and inclusive progress across the state. With 14 lakh sq. ft. of logistics and fulfilment infrastructure, including facilities in Bavla, Kheda, Navsari and Surat, and 19 hyperlocal stores under Flipkart Minutes, Gujarat has become a vital hub in Flipkart’s national supply chain. This expansion has created more than 5 lakh direct and indirect jobs, with a strong focus on women, PwDs and youth skilling. 19% of Flipkart’s sellers are from Gujarat, leveraging the platform’s tools and logistics network to grow their businesses. Through Flipkart Samarth and Samarth Krishi, artisans, weavers and farmers are reaching new customers and markets. These initiatives have supported over 33 lakh orders and sourced 90,000 kilograms of produce through FPOs, strengthening rural livelihoods and market linkages. Partnerships with the Government of Gujarat and community organisations continue to foster skill development, entrepreneurship and inclusive digital growth.
