  • Congratulations to Kalara Borneo, Semesta Sintang Lestari, and Arcia for being named the top three social enterprises in Rise Inc Batch 9! 🥳 As this batch’s top teams, they will receive IDR 90 million in grants to help scale their businesses and impact. Rise Inc, an incubation program by Instellar Impact, supports early-stage social enterprises and MSMEs in building scalable businesses. In batch 9, we focused on Sumatra and Kalimantan, where access to business training and mentorship is limited, as most initiatives tend to concentrate in Java. A huge thank you to all the social enterprises and MSMEs from across Sumatra and Kalimantan who participated in this journey with us. We’re proud of you and will continue rooting for your growth! 🤗

  • Instellar Impact takes Magelang! Since we work remotely, the end-of-year outing is one of the few occasions for us to meet each other in person. This year, we headed to Central Java to do some thinking (10% at best), bonding (45%), and competing in games for prizes (45% - we're all very competitive). We also had fun stopping by Rumah Tenun Magelang before heading home. RTM is one of the changemakers from I-SEA, our accelerator program that we co-run with #IKEASocialEntrepreneurship. Thank you for welcoming us into your home, RTM! All in all, it was very nice to reconnect as a team beyond our day-to-day tasks 😊 Here's a fun plot twist to end this post: our middle-aged CEO was nominated for the "most photogenic" award! Age doesn't stop him from knowing his angles 😆

  • Thank you to everyone who came to Impact in Action! We're happy to bring corporates and sustainability practitioners together to have honest conversation on what works, what doesn't, and what it takes to make CSR part of business strategy. A huge thank you to Anggred Sutardja and Neglasari Martini of BUMA International Group and Karyanto Wibowo of Danone Indonesia for sharing their insights and experiences with us! Special thanks to ERIA: Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia for supporting us with the venue and making this conversation possible! We've collaborated with ERIA on several initiatives, and it's always great to work with them again - especially given their commitment to supporting the innovation ecosystem. Here are some take aways from the discussion: - Danone highlighted that their commitment to purpose naturally leads them to tackle systemic issues. For example, facing pressure around plastic waste, they worked to build circular waste ecosystem instead of relying on charity-driven fixes. This shows how purpose can drive business-driven impact strategies. - After relying on annual donations with little change, BIG recognized they need to start thinking about sustainable impact. For BIG, this required a mindset shift across organization. Sustaining this commitment is challenging because it requires cultural change. - A question from Joseph Hendrik of MR DIY Indonesia ("should sustainability sit under CFO?") sparked a discussion on structure. For BIG, sustainability reports directly to CEO to make sure that it's an early-stage discussion on board-level. Danone's reporting structures have shifted across the years, but the principle remains that sustainability must be embedded into business decision-making, with reviews involving finance, marketing, and other pillars to ensure integration. - Herry Ginanjar of IEPA reminded corporates that CSR often starts from “how much budget do we have?", when it should start from "what long-term impact do we want to create?". Real sustainability comes from aligning impact goals with business objectives and community aspirations. More take aways coming soon in our newsletter! • To kick off the third cohort of I-SEA, 10 changemakers underwent a three-day bootcamp where they connected with each other, re-connected with their purpose, reflected on their culture and values, and learned IKEA's way of working. Watch the highlight video to catch all the fun moments! https://lnkd.in/gRnGTXkw Over the next year, these social enterprises will receive tailored guidance, mentorship from IKEA thought partners around the world, financial support, and ecosystem connections to help them scale their businesses and impact. Designed and run by Instellar Impact in collaboration with #IKEASocialEntrepreneurship, I-SEA supports social entrepreneurs in scaling their business and impact, and serves as a safe space for them to learn from one another, share challenges, and grow better together. • The smiles say it all! A fun close to the ASEAN SEDP 4.0, where 30 social enterprises from across Southeast Asia came together in Bangkok to exchange ideas, nurture collaborations, and scale impact throughout the region. This marks our first event outside Indonesia, and we can't be happier to co-host it with ASEAN Foundation as part of the ASEAN SEDP 4.0 programme. ASEAN SEDP 4.0, which Instellar Impact co-run with ASEAN Foundation with the support of TikTok and SAP, supports youth-led social enterprises across Southeast Asia to grow their business, strengthen their impact, and drive inclusive and sustainable development in the region. Congratulations to all social enterprises for reaching this milestone! And a big thanks to the ASEAN Foundation team for being such wonderful partners on this journey!
