  • We asked SickKids patients to tell us what it feels like to be a patient through their own creative illustrations. Swipe through some of the artwork that was submitted and read the words behind it below. Photo 1️⃣: This artwork is a powerful reminder that patients express their experiences in many ways beyond words. Photo 2️⃣: This patient submitted a drawing alongside this write up: “The doctors and nurses here, along with the support staff, are all exceptional people. Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to work at SickKids so that I can give back to the place that has taken care of me!” Photo 3️⃣: This patient submitted the drawing and said: “Thank you so much doctors for fixing my eye!” Photo 4️⃣: This patient submitted their artwork and said, “It’s very exciting to be a patient!” At SickKids, patient voices shape the way care is delivered, that’s why the Patient and Family Experience team invited patients to share their perspectives in their own unique ways, whether through artwork, poems, letters or simply answering brief questions. These submissions not only amplify patient voices, but also help us understand what matters most to patients and families, guiding improvements across the organization. #WorldChildrensDay

  • Twice a month, a very important meeting takes place at SickKids. Seated around a square-shaped table, 19 patients share their experiences and discuss hospital initiatives. Meet SickKids’ Patient Advisory Council – a group of patients who share their voice to strengthen collaboration between patients, the hospital and the community. “I find it so fulfilling to be part of the Patient Advisory Council,” says Elayna, who’s been a member since 2023. “It gives me the opportunity to contribute to positive, meaningful change in the hospital and make sure that patients have the best experience possible at SickKids.” One of the many ways Elayna and her council member peers make an impact is by creating “Youth Voice” versions of SickKids corporate strategies, most recently sharing what SickKids’ 2030 Strategic Plan and Patient and Family Experience Strategy mean to them. This #WorldChildrensDay, we’re celebrating the Council’s contributions to SickKids! Click through the photos of the team in action at their most recent meeting, where they gave feedback on the design and accessibility of a website and discussed an upcoming project (stay tuned!).

  • 🎉 SickKids has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for the 11th year in a row! It’s been a year of milestones for SickKids, and we’re excited to add this recognition — a national editorial competition honouring organizations with exceptional HR programs and workplace policies — to the list! "From marking our sesquicentennial to being named a top employer in Canada, and everything in between, it’s truly been a year that SickKids will never forget,” says SickKids President and CEO Dr. Ronald Cohn. “After 11 years, our organization does not take being a top employer for granted. Creating an exceptional employee experience is a strategic priority of SickKids 2030 because being a top employer helps attract and retain top talent like we’re fortunate to have at SickKids.”

  • The City of Toronto formally recognized SickKids for being named the world’s best children’s hospital by Newsweek during a Toronto City Council meeting last week.     In the Council Chamber, Mayor Olivia Chow congratulated the SickKids community on this incredible achievement.     “Every Torontonian is lucky to have SickKids in their backyard," she said. "Even if you’ve never had to walk through its doors, you can take comfort knowing it’s there — ready to care for our children when it’s needed most."    "Toronto is proud and grateful for all that you do.”     Karen Kinnear, Vice-President, Clinical Operations and Patient and Family Experience, also attended the meeting and reflected on her journey.     “I began my career at SickKids over 35 years ago as an oncology nurse and have seen firsthand how much heart goes into everything we do," she told the Council Chamber. "This recognition is not about one person – it’s about each and every person at SickKids who gives their all every single day.”     Thank you, Mayor Chow and the City of Toronto for this meaningful recognition.

  • A study led by Dr. Jean-Philippe Julien at #SKResearch and Radboudumc has revealed the molecular structure of a protein complex critical to malaria transmission, offering a foundation for the design of more precise and effective vaccines that could help stop the spread of #malaria. The research is part of a global effort to combat malaria, which remains a leading global health challenge. Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eFQqRQxf

  • This week, we’re celebrating nurse practitioners (NPs), like Cathy Daniels, whose expertise and leadership help support the patient and family experience at SickKids. Behind smooth transitions, coordinated care plans and families who feel supported, there’s often a nurse practitioner helping to make that possible. For more than 30 years, Cathy, NP in Complex Care and Nursing Practice Lead for the NP workforce, has been doing just that — helping children with medical complexity navigate care across hospital, home and community. “Our work is about comprehensive care and making sure there are no gaps,” says Cathy. “We don’t just look at the diagnosis — we look at what it means to live with it.” #NPWeek
