  • At Samuel, the safety of our people is our top priority - always. When we lead with a safety-first mindset, we can inspire others to do the same, which is exactly what Nick Thornton, Metal Press Operator at our Service Center in Brantford, ON, does. Nick has been an influential safety leader since he joined Samuel five years ago. Leading by example, Nick always confirms the correct PPE needed for handling different parts and reminds his team to do the same, reinforcing things like the importance of glove use and safe material handling, and following all safe operating procedures. “Nick is consistent, reliable, and genuinely cares about the safety of his crew,” shares Nick’s Joint Health & Safety Committee representative, Kevin Hoover. “He reminds others about safe work practices, helps rotate his team through part stacking to prevent strain, and encourages open communication.” Want to learn more about #TeamSamuel? • We recently had the opportunity to host grade nine students at some of our Ontario facilities for Take Your Kids to Work Day. Students spent the day taking tours of our offices and plants, shadowing our team members and participating in hands-on activities. At our #SamuelAutomation facility in Waterloo, ON, students explored the process of building a car model, starting with the design in #SolidWorks by our Mechanical Designer Ewura-Abena, then moving on to CNC programming with Dan Bell and Kyle McLean, where they watched the car take shape from a block of wood. They had the chance to laser-engrave their names and add custom designs before putting their creations to the test with a race. We had a fantastic time spending the day with the #nextgeneration of skilled workers and hope to see some of them in our student program in the future. Every day, I experience the power of community at #Samuel. From the collaborative spirit of our team members to our customer and supply chain partnerships, it is ingrained in everything we do.  On the job, we encourage our Samuel team to work together and share feedback to help us be the best business we can be, and we also like to extend that working-together mentality to the communities where we operate. Through our employee-driven charitable giving program, #SamuelCommunities, we have proudly supported more than 200 charities and donated close to $700,000 since launching in 2021. Through this program, our team members can have a direct impact on how we give back by nominating causes they care about to receive financial support from Samuel. This past quarter’s charities provide a wide range of services including animal welfare (The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth) and support for dementia (Acclaim Health) and children with critical illnesses (Campfire Circle and Fondation En Coeur). I am continually inspired by the stories team members share when they submit these charities, with many of them donating personal time and finances to help them thrive. I’m thrilled that Samuel is able to play a small part in helping to support these important causes and I look forward to seeing even more submissions next quarter.  #TeamSamuel #LifeAtSamuel #CommunityGiving #CharitableGiving #GivingBack

  • Providing opportunities for two-way communication is a top priority at #Samuel, and one of our favorite ways to do this is through our employee ideas program, Samuel Solutions. This program encourages team members, at all levels of the company, to submit ideas to help us operate more effectively in exchange for cash prizes up to $15K a year. A recent example came from Dustin Lorenz, a Maintenance Technician at our Samuel Pressure Vessel Group facility in Marinette, WI. “I was encouraged to submit my idea by Chris Schultz, a long-time friend and now colleague,” shares Dustin. “My idea helped reduce our energy use and minimize wear and tear on our equipment.” Simple and effective, Dustin’s idea took less than two weeks to implement and required an investment of less than $600. “Samuel Solutions is an awesome tool for helping draw great ideas out of employees,” Dustin says. “I love that we get compensated for them, not all companies do that.” Interested in learning more about #SamuelSolutions or #LifeatSamuel? • We are committed to helping our team members grow their careers at Samuel, and we love to see people like Tracey Bussey, Inside Sales Representative in Stoney Creek, ON, making ongoing learning and development a priority. With the help of our internal resources and programs, Tracey has been able to take on a number of different roles in our organization. She first joined Samuel in 2022 as an Administrative Assistant, before becoming a Purchasing Assistant the following year. Most recently, she joined our Service Center’s Inside Sales team, which she admits, took her outside of her comfort zone. To help her build confidence and take ownership of her new role, Tracey turned to our Online Learning Club for guidance. Through our Online Learning Club, we offer hundreds of free online courses to every team member, at every level of the organization, so that everyone can learn what they want at the time that’s right for them.   “I love that we can continuously learn and grow through the Learning Club modules,” Tracey shares. “They really help us become the best version of ourselves. I'm really grateful for the opportunities I have had with Samuel to grow my skills…and to grow within the company!” Interested in learning more about #LifeAtSamuel?
