About us
Opened in 1914, ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) showcases art, culture, and nature from around the world and across time. Today, ROM houses more than 18 million objects, from Egyptian mummies to contemporary sculpture, from meteorites to dinosaurs. ROM is the most visited museum in Canada and one of the top ten museums in North America. It is also the country’s preeminent field research institute, with a diverse range of experts who help us understand the past, make sense of the present, and shape a shared future. Just as impressive is ROM’s facility—a striking combination of heritage architecture and the cutting-edge Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, which marks the Museum as an iconic landmark and global cultural destination. We live on in what we leave behind.

✨ Introducing the ROM Immortal Gala ✨ On November 4, 2025, the Museum will proudly present the ROM Immortal Gala: The Art of Fashion. This sold-out event will raise vital funds in support of the Museum and its world-class exhibitions and programs, with a theme and décor inspired by ROM’s extraordinary department of Global Fashion and Textiles—housing the second largest collection of its kind in North America. Hosted by esteemed journalist Lisa LaFlamme, the Gala will also mark the launch of the ROM Immortal Award, honouring a trailblazer whose creativity and tenacity has forever changed their field. This year, we will celebrate inaugural recipient Suzanne Rogers for her immeasurable contributions to the art of fashion. Nearly 50 years since the discovery of a mystery “Toronto Subway Deer” antler, modern DNA analysis on the specimen is revealing new insights about a long-lost species. 🧬 The research by Dr. Aaron Shafer, professor of Forensic Science at Trent, and Dr. Camille Kessler, a grad student in Environmental & Life Sciences, was done in collaboration with the Royal Ontario Museum at its ancient DNA lab and will be published in Biology Letters. I am thrilled to share that I am the Veronika Gervers Fellow at the Royal Ontario Museum for my fustanella recreation project. Veronika Gervers laid the foundation for the study of clothing and textiles in Ottoman Eastern Europe that does not abide by recent borders or nationalism, tracing shared influences in textile, technique, and silhouette across ethnicities. I am honoured to be conducting my research at the ROM, building on the legacy of her work.
