When Ilka Chobanova immigrated to Canada in 2003, she didn’t know how to speak English. Three and a half years later, she started working as a registered nurse with Interior Health. Nearly 20 years since her IH career began, Ilka has made a tremendous impact. She was a 2025 regional winner for western Canada in the CVAA/BD Excellence in Vascular Access Management & Infusion Therapy Awards. The award recognizes the quality care Ilka provides to patients across the Thompson-Cariboo region and Royal Inland Hospital. “It is a privilege to help others in their most vulnerable time. The gratitude in my patients’ eyes and my contribution to vessel preservation gives me a sense of purpose in my work.” ▶️ Get to know Ilka: https://lnkd.in/ga24uEsN ▶️ Explore nursing careers at IH: https://lnkd.in/gmWiXPYV

When Marianne left the Philippines to continue her physiotherapy career, she was drawn to Canada’s strong focus on rehabilitation and community care - and to the natural beauty of B.C.’s southern Interior. Today, she’s an important part of the IH team in Merritt - helping patients move and heal while continuing her own journey of growth, discovering new purpose, passions and adventures along the way! Marianne’s story is a wonderful reminder of what dedication (and a welcoming community!) can make possible. It’s a special week for nursing! This week, we’re celebrating *both* Nurse Practitioners and Perioperative Nurses - two incredible groups who bring advanced skill, compassion and calm to patients across IH every single day. Not sure what each of these pros do? Here’s a quick rundown: + Nurse Practitioners (NPs) provide comprehensive, community-based care - diagnosing, prescribing and guiding patients through every stage of life. + Perioperative Nurses are the steady hands and reassuring voices in surgical settings, making sure every detail is handled with precision and empathy. Different specialties, shared purpose. These professionals help people feel safe, supported and cared for when it matters most, and we want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the NPs and Perioperative Nurses across IH - you're amazing and we're so grateful for all that you do! April Wright, a unit clerk at West Chilcotin Health Centre, loves being part of her small remote community. Growing up as a child of an RCMP officer, April was exposed to the reality and honesty of the world from a young age. At 15, she was already doing first responder work with the registered nurses in her community. After obtaining various first aid certifications, April took a job with RCMP Victim Services. She went on to work for a provincial non-profit organization that helped bridge the digital divide in remote First Nations communities. Almost 12 years ago, she returned to Tatla Lake and joined the West Chilcotin Health Centre as a unit clerk. Here, she’s been able to use the skills—including singing—she has acquired over the years to help serve her community. There are no typical days at West Chilcotin Health Centre. The clinic offers services ranging from public health to emergency care. “What makes me most proud about our team is how we work together. We face major traumas sometimes in the middle of winter when it’s -30 outside and yet we function smoothly. We all know what we need to do without speaking to each other there is just something almost magical in finding people you can work with like that.” ▶️ Learn more about April: https://lnkd.in/gEaP9P_D ▶️ Explore clerk Careers@IH: https://lnkd.in/g4nQ9idd
