Feeding kids living with chronic hunger throughout Waterloo Region on weekends and daily during school breaks
About us
Food4Kids Waterloo Region works in collaboration with other organizations to ensure there is no gap in children accessing food on a daily basis. By providing nourishment to children on weekends and during school breaks, we provide the ability of families to shore up depleted resources, ease chronic hunger and improve food security. The program is based on these 3 distinct pillars: Food content and quality: Food provided in weekend packages, and daily during school breaks will be healthy, culturally sensitive and provide for dietary restrictions and allergies. Access: We provide access by delivering the weekend food directly to children at their school during the school year, and to their homes during school breaks, ensuring a non-stigmatizing model of delivery. Children: Each child, 14 years and under in a family, will receive their own food package, to ensure nourishment of all children living within severely food insecure homes. We know that there are over 3000 children throughout Waterloo Region, living with severe food insecurity. With the support of our incredible community providing volunteer and financial support we have been able to increase the numbers of vulnerable children we serve each week to 1000 kids.

Thank you for shining a light on the great need to feed hungry children in our communities.
At Food Banks Canada, we believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. However, for too many families, putting food on the table has become an everyday challenge. The reality in Canada: Right now, 1 in 4 people in Canada don’t have access to the food they need to be at their best. Children account for 33% of monthly food bank visits, representing nearly 712,000 visits — an increase of nearly 340,000 monthly visits compared to six years ago. In March 2025, food banks across the country recorded nearly 2.2 million visits, almost double the number from five years earlier. These figures highlight an urgent truth: food insecurity is not only a matter of hunger, but also a barrier to children’s health, education, and potential greatness. On National Child Day, we invite organizations, community leaders, and people everywhere to take action: ✅ Support local food programs and food banks by donating at https://lnkd.in/gUciaG2 ✅ Advocate for lasting policy solutions that reduce poverty and food insecurity. ✅ Share this message to raise awareness. When children have enough to eat, they have the strength to dream, learn, and lead. Let’s Feed Greatness. #NationalChildDay #FoodBanksCanada #ChildHunger #CommunityImpact #SocialResponsibility #EndFoodInsecurity #CorporateCitizenship ...

We couldn't feed the 1400 hungry kids in our program without the essential partnership of the Waterloo Region elementary schools. They see the need first hand and work with us to feed students that don't have enough food. #grateful #partnership #waterlooregion #elementaryschools
