High interest and no monthly fees aren’t a trend. It’s the way banking should have been, all along. “Our customers are ambitious and forward-looking. They want a bank that evolves with them, not one that rests on its laurels.” Andy MacPherson, VP Marketing, EQ Bank. Our new campaign celebrates a simple belief: your money should work as hard as you do. Canadians deserve tools, transparency, and choice, and over 600,000 have already joined the movement, showing that banking that truly supports you can be the norm. Because it’s not just what you make. It’s who helps make it work for you. #MakeBank #EQBank #CanadianFinance #FutureOfBanking

Following Budget 2025, our SVP and Head of EQ Bank | Equitable Bank, Dan Broten, spoke with Jane Switzer at the Financial Post about how open banking and payments modernization can help Canadians gain more control, more choice and better value from their banks. The federal government’s renewed commitment to advancing open banking and modernizing Canada’s payments infrastructure, alongside a clear focus on improving healthy competition and choice in banking, is a big win for Canadians, especially those just starting out on their financial journey. As Canada’s Challenger Bank, we’ll continue to advocate for these changes with policymakers and through our own actions by creating a banking experience that challenges the status quo, delivers better value and makes managing money simpler and more rewarding. We’re thrilled to see open banking, or consumer-driven finance, included in today’s federal budget announcement. It’s a step closer toward making open banking a reality for all Canadians, and a proud day for us at EQ Bank | Equitable Bank as long-time advocates for greater competition, innovation and value in Canada’s banking industry. Open banking will help create a more connected financial system where Canadians truly own and control their data and can choose how to share it to access more rewarding, personalized services. As Canada’s Challenger Bank, we’ve always believed Canadians deserve more healthy competition in banking and have loudly pushed for change. Today’s announcement on open banking, and the clear intent to improve competition and choice for Canadians, will help unlock opportunities for greater innovation and better value for every hard-earned dollar for consumers. We’ve been vocal and persistent in our advocacy for open banking, both on main stages and behind the scenes, and it’s rewarding to see meaningful progress after years of work across the industry. We look forward to collaborating with government, regulators and industry partners to help bring open banking to life and unleash the kind of competition in banking that Canadians have long deserved. From tight finances and long hours, to dealing with economic turbulence and banking frustrations, Canadian solopreneurs – one-person business owners – are feeling the strain, according to our new survey with Angus Reid Group. 💡1-in-2 solopreneurs (51%) say today’s economic environment is hitting them as much or harder than the aftermath of the pandemic and 1-in-3 (32%) have considered closing their business at least occasionally 💡 Nearly two-thirds (60%) feel they aren’t recognized as business owners compared to larger businesses, and half (51%) don’t feel valued as Canada’s economic backbone 💡 1-in-2 (54%) say high or unexpected fees, low interest and limited value make banking harder than it should be And yet — despite these pressures — their passion and resilience stand out. Most (69%) say given the chance, they’d still choose to start their business again, even knowing today’s realities. That’s exactly why we launched our Business Banking platform. For all their grit and determination, Canada’s small business owners deserve more from their banks — more value, more innovation and solutions better geared to their reality. Solutions that help them save time, earn more and focus on what they do best: growing their business. Our recent launch is just the beginning. As Canada’s Challenger Bank, we’ll continue to innovate and build better banking for small business owners across the country. Read more about the survey here: https://lnkd.in/g5yC92JN
