  • Just announced! The AGO has received an extraordinary gift from late Toronto collectors Carol and Morton Rapp. These more than 400 artworks of modern and contemporary art include works by David Hockney, Jasper Johns, William Kentridge, Robert Rauschenberg, Kiki Smith and Andy Warhol. Unique among Toronto collectors, Carol and Morton Rapp began collecting prints in the 1960s. In the 1990’s their interests expanded to encompass contemporary photography and photogravures. Since 1966, the Rapps have generously donated 474 works to the AGO, and this latest gift, is further proof of their enduring commitment to the AGO.  The gift arrives at a significant moment for the AGO, as construction continues on the Dani Reiss Modern & Contemporary Gallery, a 40,000 sq. ft. expansion designed to showcase the AGO’s growing collection of modern and contemporary Art. https://lnkd.in/gPpJ_SHC 1 | Andy Warhol. • Celebrating Robert Rauschenberg's Centennial with Merce Cunningham Trust || Celebrating Robert Rauschenberg's 100th birthday requires a performance event as singular and imaginative as the artist himself. With vital funding from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the AGO, alongside the Merce Cunningham Trust, will mark this milestone by restaging excerpts from several of the two artists’ collaborative dance pieces. This program, specially created for the AGO and presented in Walker Court, includes "Changeling" (1957), "Antic Meet" (1958), "Story" (1963), and "XOVER" (2007). Rauschenberg’s Combine titled "Story" (1964), created during the performance of Cunningham’s choreography of the same name, forms part of the AGO’s permanent collection and is the only surviving artifact from that scenography. It is currently on display in the Moments in Modernism exhibition at the AGO through April 26, 2026 Performers: Christian Allen, Sienna Blaw, Eve Jacobs, Justin Lynch, Lindsey Jones, with live musical accompaniment by Adam Tendler. This project is supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. #Rauschenberg100 November 14, 7 pm, and November 15, 2 pm https://lnkd.in/gutu44zc Merce Cunningham in "Antic Meet" (1958).
