An independent voice for all Australians to access clean energy and transport
About us
Solar Citizens represents millions of Australian households who are powering their lives with the sun and the vast majority of Australians who support the transition to renewable energy and clean transport. We obsessively pursue the largest opportunities to bring down carbon emissions; whether that’s in our energy system through the rapid deployment of rooftop solar, or through the roll out of electric vehicles. We are a charity funded by individual and philanthropic donations and our campaigns and activities are people-powered. Our vision is for an Australia where everyone is enjoying the financial and health benefits of clean technology: energy from the sun, wind and waves, clean transport, and electrified homes. With rapid growth to 160,000 supporters since our launch in 2013 and with climate dominating Australia’s national debate, Solar Citizens has a critical role to play as the campaigning NGO most focused on positive energy and transport solutions. Solar Citizens welcomes the breakthrough on COP31 to be hosted by Turkiye and Australia to hold the Presidency with a Pre-COP to be held in the Pacific - providing a platform for Australia to lead on climate solutions and urge support for the Pacific Resilience Fund and elevate the region’s priorities for adaptation, equity and survival. "At COP31, Australia can lead by committing domestically to doubling rooftop solar backed by storage by 2035, by expanding solar for renters, scaling commercial and industrial solar and storage, and sharing that cheap clean energy to apartments in Urban Renewable Energy Zones" said Solar Citizens CEO Heidi Lee Douglas - https://bit.ly/4i9FzgT

Climate & Energy Minister Chris Bowen MP addresses #COP30 Brazil: "Our domestic uptake and rollout of renewables continues at speed. In September, for the first time, Australia's two #renewables overtook coal as our largest source of energy in our national #energy market. More than one third of Australian homes have #solar panels on their roof. Some of those install panels because they want to address climate change, but most of them do because what's good for the planet is also good for your pocket. We have so much solar now that we're introducing SolarShare, a retail offer including three hours of free power in the middle of the day even for households without panels. And over 125,000 households have now installed #batteries since the 1st of July thanks to our #CheaperHomeBatteries program. That's 1,000 households each and every day installing a battery. With a solar panel on the roof and a battery in the garage, households can decide what they do with their energy. It is clear we are in a decade of #electrification. Australia knows and the world knows. A transition to a cleaner, cheaper, more reliable grid is good for emissions, good for energy security, and good economics. Friends, we are less than 50 months away now from 2030. And if there's one region that's been leading the drive for collective climate action, courage and conviction is epicyclic. That's why if Australia hosts #COP31, you will be in partnership with the #Pacific. In hosting COP 31, we want to bring the world to our region to see the impacts of climate change and bring the world's best innovators and businesses to invest in solutions.
