We’re proud to have award-winning journalist Ben Smee from Guardian Australia on our panel, ‘Challenging and changing the youth crime narrative’ next week as part of our 2025 QCOSS Conference. This week Ben broke a major story exposing systemic failures in domestic and family violence–linked deaths. He’s also been a leading voice pushing back on harmful youth crime narratives and shining a light on the treatment of children in youth detention. Join us next week to hear Ben’s insights firsthand. Only a handful of tickets remaining: https://lnkd.in/gSxYvqGW
It's taken two years, but I want to introduce you to two of the most inspiring women I've ever met... I get paid to do my job. I get all sorts of protections from my workplace. I get the satisfaction of trying (and sometimes failing) to do journalism that makes a difference. Elsie (whose real name we can't tell you) and Kate Pausina are whistleblowers who have taken significant personal and professional risks to speak out. They're both amazing, resilient, and I'm so bloody proud to have worked with them. I would love for you to take the time to read their stories. https://lnkd.in/g7Nyg2Bf

Proud 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗤𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗦 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, 54 reasons is one of Australia's leading child rights organisations. 54 reasons – the Australian services arm of Save the Children Australia – takes its name from each of the 54 articles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was built on the work of Save the Children founder Eglantyne Jebb. 54 reasons put children’s voices at the centre of everything they do, fighting to protect and fulfil child rights, coordinating efforts through public and private channels to hold governments to account for effective and systemic policy change. #QCOSSConference #ChangingState #DreamDareDo #communityservices

Join us at 11am on 8 December for an online session to better understand the new Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Schemes coming into effect next year. QCOSS is co-hosting a two-part webinar series with the Queensland Family and Child Commission, Kyabra Community Association and the Australian Boarding Schools Association designed to support your team’s readiness for Phase 2 – Accommodation and Residential Services. From 1 January 2026, Queensland’s expanded Child Safe Standards will apply to accommodation and residential services, including supported accommodation, community or social housing, and accommodation services provided by domestic and family violence service providers. The Reportable Conduct Scheme will be implemented by 1 July 2026. The first part of this webinar series will ensure you understand your obligations under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024, including how the Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Scheme work together to prevent and respond to harm. We know residential and accommodation services are already working hard to promote a strong child safe culture. This webinar will help you build on that great work. This workshop is proudly funded by the Department of Housing and Public Works. Sign up today at https://lnkd.in/gRx7K-Vb
