When people say "its the people at QDC" that makes this a great place to work, of course I agree. We are now a collection of 68 men and 15 women; of sons, daughters, parents, grandfathers and grandmothers, sisters and brothers, Millennials, Gen Xs , Gen Zs and a few distinguished baby boomers among the crew. We are lucky to have people from every corner of the globe to add to our diverse blend of ideas, attitudes and delicious food sharing experiences. I am often asked to describe the culture at Q Design + Construct to people we interview, who are hoping to find the right place for them. In answer to this, I explain it is a place of collaboration, respect and where there is an abundance of great men who are kind, respectful, clever and know how to make you laugh. A place where one of my sons and daughter have worked and both enjoyed the connections they made. I think that’s a fairly solid litmus test of a healthy place to work. It happens to be International Men’s Day, not the only reason for this post, but which prompted some reflection that I wanted to acknowledge with gratitude.

Hesperia’s first completed development at 140 & 160 Adelaide Street has achieved WA’s first 5 Star Green Star Buildings certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, setting a new benchmark for industrial sustainability. The 15,400sqm all-electric logistics facilities feature on-site solar, wetland restoration, low-carbon materials, water-wise design, and EV charging infrastructure. Thank you to our project team led by Brett Chivers and Daniel Gorjy, builder Q Design + Construct, and Full Circle Design Services for delivering this outstanding result. • Some of our team were fortunate to attend the National Association of Women in Construction (AU) (NAWIC), Awards for Excellence to celebrate individuals and companies who are helping shape WA’s construction industry and its receptiveness to the unique contribution of women. Some of the award categories recognised included Business & Leadership, Creating The Best Project, Excellence in Sustainability and Outstanding Achievement in Construction. It was great to be part of celebrating the success and achievements of these awards and support innovative practices within our community by recognising those driving positive change. We all had some level of reflective thinking about how we can bring a higher level of energy and innovation to our daily lives.  #NAWIC #QDC #AWARDSFOREXCELLENCE2025 #NAWICAWARDS #Construction #Diversity #WomenInConstruction

  • 🚴♂️ Riding for a Cure Well done Bryan and team 'Tyred and Forked!' The MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins is a two-day journey uniting the community in support of WA researchers working to beat some of the world’s toughest cancers. As QDC’s staff elected charity for 2025, our team, directors, and subbies proudly helped Bryan reach his incredible $15,000 individual fundraising goal. We’re thrilled to have supported him as he rode for the cause once again – marking his third consecutive year in the event. Bryan set off toward Mandurah alongside more than 1,600 riders, with his team Tyred and Forked topping the community donation leaderboard at an outstanding $271,192 raised! Despite less-than-ideal weather, the determination to cross the finish line was stronger than ever - a true reflection of the community and charity spirit. 👏 Congratulations again, Bryan Sanders and team! #MACA200Ride #RidingForACure #QDC #CommunitySupport #CharityRide #CancerResearch #Teamwork #WesternAustralia #CorporateGiving #MakingADifference

  • R U OK? Day – Not just a day, a daily habit 💛 QDC had the privilege of welcoming the Happiness Co Foundation to one of our sites - encouraging us to consider the casual catch phrase “take care”, as a responsibility we hold for ourselves and to each other. We were also deeply moved by one of our team members who courageously shared his own personal journey of highs and lows in his life, the impact of speaking out and also seeking support from those around him, both at work and within his kick boxing community. The engaging session included a note of gratitude being crafted by the attendees as a simple but powerful exercise that highlighted how important it is to find meaning in our everyday actions. Let’s make conversations like this part of our everyday – not just on R U OK Day! #RUOKDay #HappinessCO #QDC #WorkplaceCulture #CommunitySupport #StartTheConversation #MentalHealthAwareness

  • 🏆 QDC is proud to share that we have been awarded Winner of the 2025 Newcastle Excellence in Building Awards – Industrial Buildings over $12M. Delivered for Qube, this Bulk Storage Facility at the Port of Newcastle, supports storage, unloading, and loading operations. The project highlights were to deliver bulk storage infrastructure within active port environments while prioritising functionality, safety, and long-term operational efficiency. We’re honoured to be recognised in this region, and a special thank you to our client Qube, whose trust and partnership over the last 14 years have been central to this achievement and much of our port side work throughout Australia. This recognition is a testament to our team’s hard work and commitment to quality, as well as the strength of our sub-contractor and consultant partners. Thank you to everyone involved! #MasterBuildersAwards #MasterBuilderWinners #IndustrialBuildings #Partnerships #Newcastle #BulkStorage #Qube #QDC

  • Site tours, industry mentoring programs & professional development activities are just a few of the many opportunities now available to QDC staff through our corporate membership of the National Association of Women in Construction (AU). QDC are proud supporters of NAWIC’s mission to advance the role of women in the construction industry through networking and education helping our team connect, grow and drive positive change across the industry. On Friday, NAWIC hosted a tour of the WACA Project — an iconic Perth landmark currently undergoing redevelopment and set to reopen at the end of the year. The team from ADCO Constructions led the tour, sharing insights into build challenges, design intent, and the complex logistics of shipping and installing the new water slide, which cleverly incorporates cricket ball stitch detailing within the new aquatic centre. For the cricket enthusiasts among us, it was a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into the transformation of this venue. #NAWIC #WomenInConstruction #ProfessionalDevelopment #WACA #WACricket #IndustryTours #BuildingCommunity #ConstructionIndustry

  • Peter has dedicated over 45 years to the construction industry, beginning his career as a Carpenter and Joiner in the late 1970s. From working on iconic projects like the Perth Town Hall and the restoration of Fremantle Jail’s historic Gatehouse, to helping deliver some of QDC’s major milestone projects, Pete’s legacy is defined not only by the quality of his work but by the genuine connections he built along the way. He’s given so much to so many projects, and supported the growth of countless rising stars, and even a few football heroes throughout his career. Now, it’s time for Pete to walk alongside his family more often than the subbies, hand over the last set of site gate keys, and hang up his work boots. Thank you Peter, for your friendship, your mentorship, and your outstanding contribution to the industry, and for your final years with the QDC team. Wishing you all the very best for the next chapter!

  • The QDC Tour de Soup 🥣🚐 It’s become a bit of a winter tradition around here — our Soup Kitchen making the rounds to all our sites, serving up hot soup and fresh bread to help beat those chilly winter days. A small gesture for the team who make it all happen on the ground. Here are just a few snaps from the journey so far — stay tuned as we visit more sites in the coming weeks. #QDC #Community #WinterTradition #TourDeSoup #ConstructionCulture #TeamWellbeing
