  • Managing Director Tom Wisdom recently posted about wine and wellness.

Owner and Managing Director, Plantagenet Wines

Someone recently asked me, can wine and wellness co-exist? This is my answer. For years “wine” and “wellness” have been treated like uneasy dinner companions. One a pleasure, one a pursuit of virtue. At its best, wine is more than a beverage, it’s a ritual. It invites us to slow down, to savour flavour, and to connect. With food, with people, with place. I think that the simple act of pausing, and of being present, is profoundly good for the mind. In a world that celebrates hustle and efficiency, the deliberate enjoyment of a glass of wine can be an antidote to stress and disconnection. Scientifically, moderate consumption of red wine has long been linked with cardiovascular benefits, thanks to antioxidants like resveratrol. But the true wellness value of wine runs deeper than biology. It’s in the Mediterranean philosophy of balance and enjoying life’s pleasures without excess, pairing wine with wholesome food, laughter, and conversation. Wellness isn’t about rigid rules or deprivation. A thoughtfully chosen glass of cool climate Chardonnay shared over dinner or a rich Shiraz sipped by the fire can be part of a healthy, intentional life. The key is respect for the craft, the place, the sharing of stories, for the moment and for oneself. So yes, wine and wellness can coexist. In fact, they remind us that the good life is not about extremes, but about balance, and perhaps the occasional glass of wine.

  • Fantastic to host MaxCap Group at our cellars this week as they undertook strategic investor engagement. The afternoon included presentations by MaxCap executives, a bespoke long table lunch format catered by Heyder & Shears paired with luxury current release Wyjup Collection wines and a special back vintage tasting including our icon 2018 Lionel Samson Cabernet Sauvignon and a 1991 Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon. Still looking amazing after all those years. Justin Pearce Bill McWilliams GAICD

  • Managing water on-farm requires localised approaches - meaning the right practice in the right place. Along the riparian system of our Wyjup vineyard, we focus on working with natural systems including strategic vegetation, interconnected waterways, and targeted water management, which all support production and the health of the waterway. This brings biodiversity, attracts beneficial insects and reduces wind and water erosion. This system complements the use of roaded catchment and irrigation dams elsewhere on the property. Together, these approaches show how aligning water management and the landscape delivers both resilience and balance.

  • Water capture and drought resilience is becoming increasingly important in a more volatile and changing climate. The 2024 and 2025 vintages were some of the warmest and driest on record in the Great Southern. Good for red wine quality but a challenge for vineyard management systems. This winter we have invested in water capture and additional roaded catchment at our premium Wyjup Vineyard. Pleasingly, we have just about filled our dam capacity and look well set for the upcoming season.
