A transformative result for Odonata, with $467,000 raised by nabtrade at their Charity Trading Day! To have NAB supporting our 500-in-5 Species Recovery Model is incredible, not just for Odonata but for species recovery in Australia. Today is an incredible day for our organisation, with nabtrade donating 80% of its brokerage fees to Odonata. And if that wasn't exciting enough, the incredible folk at NAB Foundation are matching what is raised. We were lucky enough to have volunteers from NAB join us again last week for a day in the field at Odonata’s Mt Rothwell Sanctuary. One of the many hands-on tasks the team helped with, was digging up a literal truckload of serrated tussock (pictured). This invasive species outcompetes native vegetation, reduces agricultural productivity and is of low nutritional value to animals. Removing it plays a crucial role in restoring native grasslands and habitat at Mt Rothwell. We’re so grateful for the team’s support. From barren to thriving. Through careful land management and the work of our furry ecosystem engineers, native grasses are flourishing and ecosystems at Mt Rothwell Sanctuary are beginning to function as they were always meant to. Ecosystem engineers are species that drive ecosystem function: their natural behaviours play a vital role in shaping their environment. “A great example is the eastern barred bandicoot,” COO Matt Singleton explains. “It’s foraging activities create the perfect shape of hole for many of our native grass seeds to be able to germinate within.” Link to full Yahoo News article in comments.
