For victim-survivors of sexual harassment, giving evidence in a legal matter can be extremely difficult. That's why it's so important that their evidence is considered carefully. That question was at stake in an important recent decision. MB's Mackenzie Wakefield explains.

Between 2023 and 2024, 146,700 Australians took a week or more off work due to a workplace injury. That's over 400 serious claims every single day. Yet, many workers hesitate to lodge a WorkCover claim, often unsure if their injury qualifies or worried it's "not serious enough". If you're injured at work, you have rights. Don't let uncertainty stop you from getting the support you need. Read the full article by Claudia Gullone from MB's WorkCover team: https://brnw.ch/21wXBYD

AI is a useful tool that many of us implement into our daily lives. However, when it comes to bringing a legal matter, it could have more harm than good. In Australia, we have ‘Legal Professional Privilege’, which protects the confidentiality of conversations between you and your lawyer. Uploading privileged information such as emails or documents into AI tools can have considerable consequences on the outcome of your claim by waiving protections, sharing confidential information or even breaching your lawyer's term of engagement. So, before you ask Chat anything legal that you’re unsure about, read this: https://brnw.ch/21wXzSD

Meet Karl and Osama. Osama was one of millions who fled the war in Yemen. Now he's safely in Australia, about to begin his Master of Biotechnology at the University of Melbourne. There's a new pathway for refugees to come to Australia and study. It's a pilot program allowing universities to sponsor prospective students who can come to Australia as students. Talented students can contribute their skills to important fields. People in need can find safety and certainty. It just takes a bit of legal know-how to get the ball rolling. Working with Skill Path Australia, Russell Kennedy Lawyers and Albert Arthur Lawyers Pty Ltd, our team of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants help with the applications. Karl Shami, from MB’s Social Justice team, worked on Osama's earlier this year. Now they could finally meet. When Karl helped with Osama's application, it was part of our team's first ever clinic processing applications for this new pathway. This week, Osama dropped by to inspire more of our lawyers, who donated their time to help with another set of applications. We're always on the lookout for ways to help those who need access to justice. Bringing people to safety is part of that mission.

⚠️ A popular children’s product sold nationwide has been recalled due to concerns about asbestos. ⚠️ It’s shocking that such a hazardous material could end up in items intended for children. "Families deserve safe products and strong oversight. When safety fails, accountability matters," says MB's Ross Sottile. More via Nine News: https://brnw.ch/21wXrns
