Today we celebrate the positive contributions men make to their families, communities, and culture. This year’s theme, “Celebrating Men and Boys,” reminds us of the importance of supporting men’s health and wellbeing. At KWHB, we recognise the importance of mental health and wellbeing through programs such as: Walking a New Path Together and Strong Men Leading Change. Both programs work with men and young men in the Big Rivers region to promote healthy relationships, help manage stress and emotional triggers, and strengthen community roles. Thank you to all the men we work alongside and with every day. Your strength, kindness and commitment make a lasting difference.

KWHB’s priority is delivering high-quality and culturally secure primary health care to all people in the Katherine West region. When media coverage includes misinformation or culturally inappropriate content, it threatens the integrity of our work and the wellbeing of our communities. It is our responsibility to call this out. We have submitted a formal complaint to The Daily Mail regarding an article published on November 6, 2025, that misrepresented recent events in Timber Creek.

Katherine West Health Board’s Family Services staff recently attended the SNAICC - National Voice for our Children Conference in Brisbane, joining hundreds of delegates working in Aboriginal health, early childhood, and child safety. We were proud to present Walking the Road Together, sharing our journey through the implementation of the Strong Beginnings for Strong Families program and the development of our maternal, child and young person health model of care and culturally safe resources. The conference was an excellent opportunity to collaborate, listen, and learn from organisations across the country who are working hard to support strong and healthy futures for Aboriginal children and families. #SNAICC2025 #AboriginalHealth #EarlyChildhood #ChildSafety #CommunityStrength #KWHB

A big shout-out to our Cultural and Health Literacy Resource Review (CaHLRR) group for all the hard work you are doing. The review group meets regularly to ensure that all our health resources are culturally appropriate and relevant to the communities in the Katherine West region. This work is essential to delivering safe, effective, and respectful primary health care. The group includes: Members: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff local to the Katherine West region. Advisors: Selected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff from outside the region, along with non-Indigenous staff. By reviewing materials through a cultural lens, CaHLRR strengthens communication, builds trust, and ensures our resources reflect the values and needs of the people we serve. #oneshieldforall #aboriginalhealth

Today is R U OK? Day. A reminder to check in, connect, and support one another. Meaningful conversations can change lives, especially during tough times. Here’s how you can take action: 👉🏾 Ask: Start with “R U OK?” – trust your gut and gently dig deeper if something feels off. 👉🏾 Listen: Be present, open-minded, and genuinely care. 👉🏾 Encourage: Help them take steps forward and offer your support. 👉🏾 Follow up: Check in again – tomorrow, next week, or whenever they need it. Let’s make every day an opportunity to check in and support each other. #RUOKDay #oneshieldforall

🖤 💛 ❤️ Freedom Day Festival 2025 The Gurindji Freedom Day Festival commemorates the iconic events of the 1966 Wave Hill Walk Off and the birth of Aboriginal Land Rights. On August 23rd, 1966, two hundred Gurindji, Mudburra and Walpiri people took a stand against poor working conditions and injustice when they walked off Lord Vestey’s Wave Hill Cattle Station. Led by Vincent Lingiari, this brave action sparked the national Land Rights movement. In 1975, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam returned a portion of land to the Gurindji people in a historic moment, captured in the powerful image of Whitlam pouring sand into Vincent’s hand. This continues to be a symbol of unity and inspiration for all Australians. This year’s Freedom Day Festival is especially significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Handback, a time to honour the courage of the Gurindji people, reflect on their legacy, and celebrate culture, country and community. Katherine West Health Board is proud to stand alongside community to mark this important milestone. #FreedomDay #WaveHillWalkOff #LandRights
