On November 8th, Intersex Solidarity Day and Intersex Day of Remembrance, we gathered to celebrate solidarity and remember those who have gone before. We honoured the life of Del Victus, a much‑loved community member who passed in December 2024, with the launch of the Del Victus Memorial Award. We remembered nominees who have passed in the last year including Marie Hart and Sinead Evelyn Francis‑Coan, and acknowledged the contributions of our other worthy nominees: Cody Smith, Gabriel Filpi, Margie McCumstie, Morgan Carpenter, Paul Byrne‑Moroney, YOUth&I, and Bonnie Hart. Congratulations to Bonnie Hart, recipient of the inaugural Del Victus Memorial Award, recognised for her decades of activism, art, and advocacy that have transformed lives and brought visibility and resources to intersex communities. On 2 November in Adelaide, the annual Ian Purcell Oration celebrated the life and legacy of one of South Australia’s greatest LGBTIQA+ advocates. This year’s oration was delivered by Anna Brown OAM, reflecting on 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in SA. Anna spoke on strengthening discrimination laws, the power of a Human Rights Act, protections against hate speech, and the urgent need for inclusion of intersex voices in law reform. Her words reminded us that progress is never guaranteed — it must be defended, expanded, and made real in the lives of all LGBTIQA+ South Australians. #HappyIntersexSolidarityDay #FundIntersexFutures On this year’s Intersex Day of Solidarity, the Intersex movement celebrates the dedication, courage, and ongoing commitment of activists worldwide whose persistent advocacy and organisational efforts have resulted in significant advancements for intersex individuals at national, regional, and international levels. Despite considerable achievements, the sustainability of this progress is threated by the fact that intersex organisations continue to be among the least funded globally. In response, the Global Intersex Movement has issued a powerful statement and launched a Global Solidarity Campaign to fund intersex futures — a bold collective call to raise $20 million in new money over the next year with the aim of ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience of intersex movements worldwide. We invite allies and donors to read the statement (available in both English and Spanish) and circulate it within your networks to support a well-resourced, resilient, and sustainable future for intersex movements. https://lnkd.in/gqbqabMB

InterAction for Health and Human Rights invites you to join our webinar Advancing Intersex Depathologization, coordinated by Mauro Cabral Grinspan. We’re holding 3 seminars in different timezones, in English and Spanish, between 17 and 20 November. Find one that works in your time zone! For centuries, the existence of people with innate variations in sex characteristics has been defined as a medical issue. Moreover, those variations have been identified as pathologies in themselves, regardless of their real impact on health and wellbeing. The ongoing process of depathologizing innate variations of sex characteristics also faces the challenge posed by a global wave of authoritarian movements, committed to pathologization as a social and political tool. Today, more than ever, it is urgent to mobilize our collective efforts to advance intersex depathologization in this burning world. https://lnkd.in/gCc_Gm6A

Thank you to Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice for this great interview with me about the yellow and purple intersex flag: "I think having a symbol that works for us, one that is about our own values, has helped the movement grow. It’s an emblem of our wholeness." Astraea was the first donor to both of InterAction's two founding organisations (IHRA and IPSA), and it remains really important to their work. https://lnkd.in/gf7rdzA9
